Ferrum Athletes Earn USA South Honors- Taylor, Zakkak, Basten Named Players of the Week

- Ferrum, Va. -- The USA South Athletic Conference honored three Ferrum College student-athletes this week for their performances in
last week's contests.
Freshman Curtis Taylor (Glen Allen, Va./Hermitage) has been
named USA South Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week for his play in
a 9-2 win over Shenandoah University on March 6. Taylor
pitched 7.1 innings, allowing just one run and striking out 17
batters.
Sophomore Gabe Zakkak (Midland, Va./Liberty) has been named
USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week. Zakkak went 4-0 at
#1 singles and 4-0 at #1 doubles last week. Zakkak was last
year's USA South Rookie of the Year, finishing with an impressive
22-5 record at #1 singles.
Freshman Walter Basten (Lynchburg, Va./New Vistas) has been
named USA South Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week. Basten went
3-1 at #2 singles and paired with Zakkak to go 4-0 at #1
doubles. Zakkak and Basten helped the Panthers go 3-1 last
week during the team's annual spring break trip to Hilton Head
Island, South Carolina.
The Ferrum baseball team is off to an 11-4 start this season, while
