Ferrum Tops Averett in Women's LAX
Matern Leads Panthers with 5 Goals in 17-5 Win
 
Ferrum, Va. -- Senior Ginni Matern (Stafford, Va./No. Stafford) tallied five goals for the Panthers as Ferrum College cruised to a 17-5 win over Averett University in USA South women's lacrosse action.

Junior Noelle Sanderson (Big Island, Va./Liberty) and freshman Latrice Atkins (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield) had four goals each in the win.  Freshman Natania Lauchengco (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) had two goals.
 
Junior Jennifer Phillips (Ferrum, Va./Franklin County) had a solid game for the Panthers as well, registering a goal and four assists.  Sophomore Heather Baugh (Leesburg, Va./Herndon) chipped in with a goal and an assist.  
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Mariah Koptis (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) played all 60 minutes in net, making eight saves and allowing five goals.  Ferrum led 11-2 at halftime and out-shot Averett 37-19.
 
Ferrum improves to 3-5 overall, 1-2 in the USA South.  Averett remains winless at 0-10, 0-3 in league play.  Head Coach Celia Mosier's team will be back in action on Friday, April 2, at 4 p.m. when it faces non-conference Sweet Briar College on the road.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
