Three Ferrum Athletes Named Players of the Week
Porter, Etherton, Paine Honored by USA South
 
Ferrum, Va. -- A trio of Ferrum College spring sport student-athletes have been named Players of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference for their play in last week's competition.

Junior Stacy Porter (Radford, Va./Radford) has been named Softball Pitcher of the Week.  Porter, pictured above left, was 2-0 last week for the Panthers.  She pitched a no-hitter in a 7-0 win over Chowan College March 27 with five strikeouts.  She also pitched a complete game in a 5-1 victory over Peace College March 28, where she allowed just four hits and struck out eight batters.  Also nominated were Jennifer Sorenson of Methodist College and Vanessa Gray of Christopher Newport University.
 
Freshman Lindsay Etherton (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) has been named Softball Rookie of the Week.  In four games last week, Etherton batted .417 with five RBI, helping the Panthers split with Chowan March 27 and sweep Peace March 28.  Also nominated were Caryn Moreland of Methodist and Brittany Estep of Averett University.

Freshman Wilson Paine (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville) has been named Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week.  Paine, pictured above right, went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles last week for the Panthers as they picked up wins over Lynchburg College March 24, Maryville College March 27, and Emory & Henry College March 28.  Also nominated was Jose Licera of Averett.
 
Ferrum's softball team is currently 17-8 overall and 7-1 in the USA South under Coach Vickie Van Kleeck.  The men's tennis team is 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the USA South under Coach Gary Holden.  For more information contact the sports information office at (540) 365-4498.
