Men's Tennis Wins Twice Over Weekend
Panthers Improve to 14-2 With Wins Over Maryville, E&H
 
Ferrum, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's tennis team picked up two wins over the weekend, beating Maryville College 6-1 March 27 in Maryville, Tennessee, and Emory & Henry College 7-0 March 28 in Abingdon, Virginia.

Ferrum is currently on a 10-match winning streak, dating back to a win over Cabrini College in March 3.  The Panthers improved to 14-2 with the wins and are one win shy of tying last year's school record for single season wins (15).
 
Sophomore Gabe Zakkak (Midland, Va./Liberty) and freshman Walter Basten (Lynchburg, Va./New  Vistas) won at #1-2 singles, respectively, both days.  The duo also won matches at #1 doubles against both Maryville and Emory & Henry.
 
Sophomore Erich Trier (Middleburg,  Va./Loudoun Valley) and freshman Wilson Paine (Maryville, Va./Maryville) won both weekend matches at #2 doubles, as well as #4 and #5 singles.

Sophomore Matt Brantley (Norlina, N.C./Warren County) teamed with freshman Slavenko Drincic (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) for two wins at #3 doubles.  Brantley won both his #3 singles matches over the weekend, while Drincic went 1-1 at #6 singles.  Brantley, pictured above,

errum returns to action Friday, April 1, with a home non-conference match against Hampden-Sydney College at 3 p.m.  The Panthers then host the 2004 Bud Skeens Memorial Tournament on Saturday, April 2.  Bridgewater College, Ferrum, Maryville, and Hampden-Sydney are the four participating teams.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
