Porter Tosses No-Hitter
Softball Splits in Busy Sports Weekend
 
Ferrum, Va. -- Ferrum College junior softball pitcher Stacy Porter (Radford, Va./Radford) pitched a no-hitter in the second game of a double-header against Chowan College.  Porter walked four and recorded five strikeouts through seven innings to lead the Panthers to a 7-0 win over the Braves.
 
Shortstop Lindsay Etherton (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) was 3-3 with 3 RBIs, while second baseman Jami Reed (Danville, Va./Tunstall) was 2-5.  Porter went 2-3 from the plate with a double and RBI.
 
In the afternoon's first game, Chowan topped Ferrum 2-1.  Ferrum is 15-8 overall, and 5-1 in the USA South Conference.  Chowan is 18-8, 5-5.
 
In USA South baseball action, Ferrum swept a double-header at Greensboro College.  Ferrum took game 1 15-12 thanks to a 4-5, 6 RBI performance from senior left fielder Donnell Stockton (Martinsville, Va./Fieldale-Collinsville).  
 
The Panthers won the second game 10-3 as senior pitcher Carlos Sanchez (Stanleytown, Va./Bassett) worked all nine innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out eight.  Senior catcher Kevin Griffin (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) went 2-4, with a home run and two runs batted in, senior right fielder Brandon Hale (Coeburn, Va./Coeburn) was 2-5 with a home run and three RBIs.  Ferrum improves to 20-4 overall and 12-2 in the USA South.
 
In Women's Lacrosse action, Ferrum fell at home to Christopher Newport 18-3.  Senior Ginni Matern (Stafford, Va./Stafford) had 2 goals for the Panthers (2-5, 0-2).
