Men's Tennis Defeats Lynchburg 5-2
Panthers Improve to 12-2, Run Win Streak to Eight
 
Ferrum, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's tennis team defeated Lynchburg College 5-2 at home this afternoon, setting a new school record in the process.
 
The win was Ferrum's eighth straight victory, surpassing the previous record of seven straight, set during the 2003 season. The record is for NCAA Division III years only, from 1986 through the present.  As a junior college, Ferrum's winning streak record was an unprecedented 77 matches during the 1970s.

Sophomores Paul Matthews (Glen Allen, Va./JR Tucker) and Matt Brantley (Norlina, N.C./Warren County) teamed for a win at #2 doubles, then won at #3 and #4 singles, respectively.

Sophomore Erich Trier (Middleburg,  Va./Loudoun Valley) and freshman Wilson Paine (Maryville, Va./Maryville) won at #3 doubles, then won at #5 and #6 singles, respectively.

Ferrum improves to 12-2 this season, while the Hornets fall to 1-3. 
Coach Gary Holden's team returns to action Saturday, March 27, with a non-conference match at Maryville College at 2 p.m.  The Panthers then play at non-conference opponent Emory & Henry College on Sunday, March 28, at 1:30 p.m.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
