Ferrum Basketball Players Earn All-Conference Awards
Alzime Named Rookie of the Year

Ferrum, Va. -- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its men's and women's All-Conference basketball teams, and Ferrum College had four players honored.

USA South Women's Basketball All-Conference Team
USA South Men's Basketball All-Conference Team

Senior Tanisha Durham (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) and junior Tara Toland (North, S.C./North) were named to the women's All-Conference second team.  Freshman Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) was named 2004 USA South Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year.

Alzime, pictured here, averaged 11.6 points and 7.3 rebounds this season en route to earning Rookie of the Year honors.  Her numbers against USA South opponents were even better, as she averaged a team-high 13.9 points per game and with 8.9 rebounds per game (2nd on team).

Alzime is only the second player from Ferrum to earn Conference Rookie of the Year honors in women's basketball.  Senior Shermika Harris (Martinsville, Va./Laurel Park) earned the same in 2001, when she was an All-Conference second team selection.  She was also a member of the 2001 Dixie All-Tournament Team.  Harris closed out her career this season with 964 career points and 1,050 career rebounds.  For her career, she averaged a stellar 10.0 rebounds per game over four seasons.

For Durham, it was her third straight All-Conference award.  She earned first team honors the past two seasons.  Durham finishes her career as Ferrum's new all-time scoring leader with 1,497 career points.  She averaged an impressive 14.4 points per game over her four-year career with the Panther women's basketball program.

Toland capped a great year in which she set new career records for assists (365) and steals (282).  She led the team in scoring (14.0 ppg), assists (6.4 apg), and steals (3.7 spg) this season.  Toland closed out her junior year with 999 career points, and will become the 12th member of Ferrum's 1,000 Point Club when she scores her first point as a senior next year.  This is Toland's second All-Conference honor, having earned first team last season.

On the men's side, senior Kevin Aigbe (Nashville, Tenn./Volunteer State CC) was named to the All-Conference second team.  Aigbe led the Panthers in both scoring and rebounding this season.  He averaged 15.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this season, including 18.9 ppg and 8.9 rpg against league opponents.

Ferrum's women dropped an opening-round game to Greensboro College at the USA South Tournament this week and closed its season at 15-11.  The men lost to Shenandoah University in the opening round of conference tournament, closing the season at 9-17.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
