Ferrum Eliminated from Conference Basketball Tournaments
Women Upset by Greensboro, Men Fall in OT to Shenandoah
 
Ferrum, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's and women's basketball teams were eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the USA South Athletic Conference tournaments this afternoon.  The Lady Panthers fell 71-65 to Greensboro College in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, while the men fell 80-72 in overtime to Shenandoah University in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
 
The women's tournament is being hosted by Chowan College, the men's tournament by North Carolina Wesleyan College.

In the women's game, junior Tara Toland (North, S.C./North) led the team with 14 points and six assists.  Freshman Charde' Evans (Virginia Beach, Va./Coastal Christian) had 12 points, including four three-point field goals.  Senior Shermika Harris (Martinsville, Va./Laurel Park) added 10 points and 14 rebounds.

The Panthers trailed 35-25 at halftime and were out-rebounded 58-48.  Greensboro, the #6 seed, and Ferrum both shot 36 percent from the floor, but the Pride went to the line 25 times (15-25).  Ferrum made it to the line for just 13 free throw attempts (5-13).

In the men's game, senior Kevin Aigbe (Nashville, Tenn./Volunteer State CC) led the team with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Freshman Rob Fuller (Timberlake, N.C./Person Co.) had 15 points and seven rebounds, and freshman Kendrick Holley (Winston-Salem, N.C./No. Forsyth) had 12 points to go with 11 boards.

The Panthers led 34-30 at halftime only to see the Hornets tie the game on a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.  In the extra period, Shenandoah out-scored Ferrum 11-3.  Ferrum, the #7 seed, out-rebounded Shenandoah 51-44.  The Panthers shot 41 percent from the floor, while the Hornets shot just under 39 percent.
