Panthers Sweep Pikeville in Baseball
- Meeks Homers Twice

- Ferrum, Va. -- A pair of solid pitching and
hitting performances propelled Ferrum College's baseball team to a
non-conference doubleheader sweep of Pikeville College this
afternoon. The Panthers won the opener 15-0, then added an
11-0 win in the nightcap. Both games were halted in the fifth
inning.

In the first game, senior Thomas
Meeks (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) hit a three-run homer
to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning to plate Ferrum's
last three runs. Meeks, pictured, went 1-1 with three RBI and a run, and
was hit by pitches twice.

- Sophomore Donnie
Sprouse (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) went 4-4 with a
double, five RBI and three runs scored. Senior Carlos
Sanchez (Stanleytown, Va./Bassett) got the win on the
mound. Sanchez allowed two hits in four innings, while
striking out seven and walking none.
In the second game, Meeks blasted a three run shot again to center
field to give Ferrum's its first three runs. Meeks went 2-3
with a homer, five RBI and a pair of runs scored. Freshman Curtis
Taylor (Glen Allen, Va./Hermitage) picked up the win, throwing all
five innings. Taylor allowed just two hits, fanned six batters
and walked one.
Ferrum improves to 4-0 with the wins, while Pikeville falls to
1-5. Ferrum will play at Emory & Henry College Sunday,
Feb. 22, then host Lynchburg College Tuesday, Feb. 24. For more information, please contact the Ferrum
