Ferrum’s Venable Earns Second All-America Honor
Defensive Back Honored by CoSIDA
 
Ferrum, Va. -- Junior defensive back Darren Venable (Covington, Va./Covington) has been named to the 2003 College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Division III All-America Football Team, as an honorable mention.  Earlier this week, Venable was named to the Football Gazette 2003 All-America third team, his second consecutive season earning All-America honors for that publication.

This season and in 2002, Venable was named to the All-Conference, All-State, and All-Region first teams.  He was a Football Gazette third team All-American both years as well a CoSIDA All-American honorable mention this year.
 
Venable was also a repeat selection as USA South Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, having earned the honor in 2002 as well.  He made 74 tackles this year, including 32 solo stops and nine tackles for loss.  Venable had six sacks, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles, two fumble returns, and an interception. He returned one fumble for a 76-yard score.
