Panthers Sweep Two on the Road
Ferrum Men Defeat Huntingdon 70-65 & Piedmont 97-63
 
Ferrum, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team picked up its second win in as many nights with a 97-63 romp over host Piedmont College in the second day of action at the 2003 Great South/USA South Tip-Off Classic in Demorest, Georgia.  The tournament was hosted by Piedmont.
 
Freshman forward Kirk Melvin (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) led the Panthers with 19 points on 7-11 shooting from the floor, including a 4-5 clip from behind the three-point line.  Freshman guard Rob Fuller (Timberlake, N.C./Person County), had 16 points on 6-8 shooting, including 4-4 from behind the arc.
 
Freshman forward Kendrick Holley (Winston-Salem, N.C./No. Forsyth ) had 11 points, while senior forward Kevin Aigbe (Nashville, Tenn./Volunteer State CC) had eight points and six rebounds.   In all, 12 players scored for Ferrum.  The panthers led 56-34 at halftime.
 
Fuller and Aigbe were named to the All-Tournament team.  Fuller had 37 points, five rebounds, and four steals in the two-day tournament.  Aigbe, pictured above, had 20 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists.  The Panthers defeated Huntingdon College 70-65 in the first day of the tournament.
 
Tonight's win marks the first time in over 10 years that Ferrum has opened the season at 2-0.  The last time was in the 1991-92, when the Panthers opened the season at 8-0.
 
Ferrum returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 25, hosting Hampden-Sydney College.  The Tigers finished 28-4 last year, advancing to the NCAA Division III Final Four.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday.  For more information, please contact the sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
