Holmes Named to Aztec Bowl Roster
Fullback to Play for U.S. All-Star Team Dec. 13th in Mexico
 
Ferrum, Va. -- Ferrum College senior Moncrief Holmes has been chosen to compete in the 2003 Aztec Bowl, sponsored by the American Football Coaches Association.  The Aztec Bowl is the association's NCAA Division III All-Star game, and will be played this year on December 13 in Cancun, Mexico.

A senior fullback from Yorktown, Virginia, Holmes is one of 42 NCAA Division III seniors chosen from across the nation to represent the United States in the Aztec Bowl.  Holmes was the 2003 USA South Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 826 rushing yards and five touchdowns in eight games this season.

Holmes led the USA South in rushing with a 103.2 yards per game average, and was the league's All-Conference first team selection at fullback for the second straight year.  Holmes' career numbers include with 2,019 rushing yards on 345 carries, for an impressive 5.9 yards per carry average, and 12 touchdowns.  Holmes is the son of Joanne and Johnny Holmes or Yorktown, Virginia.
 
The Aztec Bowl is the traditional season-ending game for Mexico's college football season.  The game will kickoff at 4 p.m. CST Dec. 13 at Estadio Cancun 86 in Cancun.  The Aztec Bowl has been played 29 times since 1947, with the last six contests featuring a U.S.-Mexico match-up.  Former Central (Iowa) College Head Coach Ron Schipper will coach the team for the seventh consecutive year.
 
Holmes is the third Ferrum player chosen to represent the United State in the Aztec Bowl.  Defensive lineman Tone' Dancy went in 2000 and defensive back Tim Carter went in 2001.  Both players earned All-America honors as seniors.
