Panthers Earn USA South Awards
Football Players Grab Player of the Week Honors
 
Ferrum, Va. -  Senior fullback Moncrief Holmes (Yorktown, Va./York) and freshman defensive back Craig Ford (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage) earned USA South Football Player of the Week honors this week.

Holmes, pictured above right, has been named USA South Football Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Ferrum's 27-9 league win over Averett University October 4th at home.  Holmes had a game-high 116 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries, good for a 7.3 yd/att average.  He is Ferrum's leading rusher this season with 429 yards on 69 carries (6.2 avg).  Holmes is also the USA South's leading rusher at 107.2 yards per game through four games.

Ford, pictured above left, has been named USA South Defensive Rookie of the Week for his play against Averett.  Ford made seven tackles against the Cougars, four solo and three assisted, as Ferrum held Averett to 223 total yards.  The win over Averett improved Ferrum to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the USA South.  The Panthers travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, this Saturday to play non-conference opponent Guilford College.
 
Last week, senior Dwayne Williams (Stuart, Va./Patrick County) was named USA South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.  It was Williams third such honor this season, all in consecutive weeks.  Additionally last week, senior Shermika Harris (Martinsville, Va./Laurel Park) was named USA South Volleyball Player of the Week.  It was Harris first honor this season.  For more information, call the Ferrum Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
