Durham Sets New Scoring Record
Panther Men & Women Lose in OT at Chowan
 
Ferrum, Va.The Ferrum College men's and women's basketball teams lost heartbreakers at Chowan College this afternoon, both falling in overtime in USA South Athletic Conference action.  The women fell 87-80, while the men lost their fifth straight with a 95-91 setback in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.

In the women's game, junior Amber Triplett (Bassett, Va./Bassett) led five Ferrum players in double figures.  Triplett had 22 points, going 6-10 from behind the arc.  Freshman Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) had 21 points  and nine rebounds.  Alzime has scored over 20 points in four of Ferrum's last five games.

Senior Shermika Harris (Martinsville, Va./Laurel Park) had 12 points to go with 17 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.  Harris leads the league in rebounding at 12.3 per game.  Junior Tara Toland (North, S.C./North) also had 12 points, while dishing out 12 assists.
 
Senior Tanisha Durham (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) had 11 points and eight rebounds.  Durham, pictured here, broke the College's all-time women's basketball scoring record with 1,390 career points.  The record was previously held by 2003 All-American Tina McBride, who scored 1,384 points from 2000-03 and was a four-time All-Conference selection.

Chowan (8-5, 6-1 USA South) trailed the Panthers by one point at halftime, 40-39.  The game was tied at 76-76 at the end of regulation.  Ferrum (9-7, 5-2) was outscored 11-4 in overtime.  Chowan won the battle of the boards, 57-50.
 
In the men's game, senior Kevin Aigbe (Nashville, Tenn./Volunteer State CC) led the Panthers in both scoring and rebounding with 27 points and 14 boards.  Freshman Kendrick Holley (Winston-Salem, N.C./No. Forsythe) had 17 points, and sophomore Chris Smith (Roanoke, Va./Northside) had 12 points.

Chowan (7-8, 2-3) led 43-39 at the break.  Ferrum (7-10, 1-5) tied the score at 79-79 at the end of regulation, but was outscored 16-12 in overtime.  The Braves out-rebounded Ferrum, 46-41.
