Cox Earns All-State Honor in Softball
Third Baseman Nabs Second All-State Honor This Season

Ferrum, Va. -- Just one week after earning being named to the VaSID Academic All-State Honorable Mention Team, Ferrum College junior third baseman Lindsay Cox (Waldorf, Md./LaPlata) has been named to the 2003 VaSID College Division Softball All-State Team.  Cox is listed among the honorable mentions on the All-State team.

          Cox's 2003 Season Honors

Cox was named to the NCAA Division III All-Atlantic Region third team this year, as well as the Dixie Conference All-Conference first team.  She batted .333 (38-114) this season with one double, four triples, one home run, and 15 RBI.  Cox scored 19 runs, was 3-4 in stolen bases, and had a .957 fielding percentage from her spot at third base.  She was Ferrum's team Defensive Player of the Year this season.

While this is Cox's first All-State honor, she has earned All-Conference three straight years at Ferrum (first team in 2003, second team in 2002 & 2001).  She helped Ferrum win last year's Dixie Conference Tournament, earning the Panthers their first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs, eventually placing third at the Atlantic Regionals.

Cox has been named to the Dixie Academic All-Conference team the past two seasons, and is expected to be this year as well when the league announces the 2002-03 team sometime in the next few weeks.  She is majoring in biology at Ferrum, with minors in chemistry and environmental science.  Cox is the daughter of Jesse and Dawn Cox of Waldorf, Maryland.

The VaSID All-State team is voted upon by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Association.  To view the complete 2003 VaSID College Division All-State Softball Team, please click here.  For more information, please contact the sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
