Baseball Team Advances with Win Over Greensboro
Panthers Pick Up 11-2 Win in 2nd Round of Dixie Tournament
 
Ferrum, Va. -- The Ferrum College baseball team advances in the consolation bracket of the Dixie Conference Tournament today with an 11-2 win over #4 seed Greensboro College.  The win comes a day after top-seeded Ferrum was upset 4-2 by #8 Shenandoah University.

Junior Thomas Meeks (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) pitched all nine innings today for the Panthers, allowing five hits and three walks, while striking out seven batters.  He was dominating at the plate as well, belting two home runs, a triple, and a sacrifice fly, while driving in seven runs.  Meeks, pictured here, improves to 6-0 with the win.
 
Junior outfielder Ricky Peace (Hopewell, Va./Hopewell) went 1-4 with a home run, and junior catcher Kevin Griffin (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) went 3-4 with a run.  Senior outfielder Wes Martin (Woolwine, Va./Patrick County) went 2-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
 
Ferrum improves to 26-4 with the win, while Greensboro falls to 18-22.  The Panthers play again at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning, facing the loser of tonight's 7:45 p.m. game between #2 seed Christopher Newport University and #3 Methodist College.  Greensboro has been eliminated from the tournament.  For more information, contact the sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
