- Ferrum Wins Dixie Baseball Title
- Panthers Sweep N.C. Wesleyan Series

- Ferrum, Va. -- Ferrum College completed a
Dixie Conference baseball sweep of North Carolina Wesleyan College
this afternoon with an 8-4 win at home. The Panthers also
won 16-4 yesterday.

- With the win, Ferrum improves to 25-3 overall
wins the 2003 Dixie baseball regular season title with a 10-2
league record. With Methodist defeating Christopher Newport
University this afternoon 8-4, Ferrum wins the Dixie regular
season title with a 10-2 mark. CNU finishes 9-3 in the
league standings to place second. N.C. Wesleyan falls
to 14-20 with the loss and is now 3-9 in the Dixie.

- Junior Thomas
Meeks (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County), pictured at right,
scattered seven hits over seven innings, striking out four and
walking one. With the win, Meeks improves to 5-0 on the
mound this season. At the plate this afternoon, Meeks went
1-4 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh
inning. He also homered in yesterday's win over NC Wesleyan.

- Senior first baseman Jason Beale
(Charlottesville, Va./W. Albemarle) went 3-4 at the plate with
two RBI and a run. Senior second baseman Mickey
Russell (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) went 2-4 with a double
and scored a pair of runs.

- Ferrum will take the #1 seed into the Dixie Tournament, to be
played April 16-19 at Dan Daniel Memorial Park in Danville,
