Softball Trio Earns Dixie Honors
Porter, Hunt, Francis Earn Player of the Week Awards
 
Ferrum, Va. -- The Ferrum College softball team saw three of its players earn Dixie Conference Player of the Week honors for their play in last week's action.  Ferrum went 5-1 last week, including a win over Bethany College, ranked #4 in the nation.
 
Sophomore Stacy Porter (Radford, Va./Radford) has been named Dixie Pitcher of the Week.  Porter, pictured above, struck out 11 batters in the Panthers' 1-0 loss to McDaniel College, then fanned nine in a 20-0 win over Shenandoah and eight in a 5-1 victory over Bethany.  In 19 innings last week, she went 2-1 with a 0.74 ERA, striking out 28, walking five and allowing just eight hits.  Porter also had a great week at the plate, going 11-22 for a .500 batting average with three doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBI.
 
Freshman Sonya Francis (Blairs, Va./Dan River) has been named Dixie Rookie Pitcher of the Week.  Francis pitched three games last week, striking out 25 while giving up only nine runs.  Francis went 3-0 for the week with as 1.67 ERA.

Freshman Wendy Hunt (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) has been named Dixie Rookie of the Week.  Hunt batted .600 last week (12-20 at the plate) with three doubles, one homer, and eight RBI.
 
Ferrum is currently 13-6 overall and has an even 3-3 record in the Dixie.  The Panthers play next on March 29th at home in a Dixie doubleheader against Chowan College, stating at 1 p.m.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
