McBride Ferrum's New Career Scoring Leader
Senior Breaks Six-Year-Old Record

Ferrum, Va. -- Ferrum College senior Tina McBride (Glade Hill, Va./Franklin County) broke the women's basketball all-time scoring record this afternoon in the Panthers' 73-61 Dixie Conference win over Christopher Newport at home.

McBride came into the game needing three points to tie and four points to break the College's women's basketball all-time scoring record of 1,315 career points, held by former standout Kia Williams (1993-96).  Williams was on hand to see her record broken.

With 7:41 remaining in the first half against Christopher Newport, McBride scored her first two points of the game on a 10-foot jumper.  McBride then hit her second field goal of the afternoon with 4:56 remaining in the first half, on a 12-footer.  The game was halted and McBride was presented the game ball by Coach Donna Doonan.

McBride closed out the game with 14 points (see box score) and now has 1,325 career points and counting.  The Panthers went on to win the game and retain sole possession of first place in the Dixie with an 8-1 league record.  Ferrum is currently 16-4 overall and ranked #3 in the NCAA Division III South Region.

McBride is a three-time All-Conference women's basketball player for the Panthers, earning second team honors in 2000 and 2002, and first team honors in 2001.  She also earned second team All-Conference in women's tennis in 2002, her first-ever year playing the sport.  McBride is also a two-time Academic All-Conference honoree.

The Panthers play four of their last five regular season games on the road; Feb. 12 at Shenandoah University, Feb. 15 at Methodist College, Feb. 22 at North Carolina Wesleyan College, and Feb. 23 at Chowan College.  Ferrum's only remaining home game is set for Feb. 18 against Greensboro College.  The Pride are the only Dixie team to have defeated Ferrum this season, 68-65, Jan. 28 in Greensboro.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
