Ferrum Splits Hoop Doubleheader with Greensboro
Women Win 76-63, Men Lose 78-76 in OT
 
Ferrum, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's and women's basketball teams split a Dixie Conference doubleheader with Greensboro at home tonight. The Panther women defeated Greensboro College 76-63, while the men fell 78-76 in overtime.

In the women's game, junior Tanisha Durham (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry), pictured at right, led all scorers with 28 points.  The Panthers also got 14 points from sophomore Amber Triplett (Bassett, Va./Bassett), 13 points and six assists from sophomore Tara Toland (North, S.C./North), and 14 points and eight rebounds from junior Shermika Harris (Martinsville, Va./Laurel Park).  

Senior Tina McBride (Glade Hill, Va./Franklin County), playing in her last regular-season game at Ferrum, had nine points and five rebounds.  McBride was honored prior to the game during a senior night ceremony.  She is the College's all-time scoring leader with 1,354 career points, and has earned three All-Conference awards in basketball and one in tennis.

The Ferrum women improve to 18-5 overall and remain atop the Dixie standing at 10-2 in league play.  Greensboro is 13-7, 8-4 in the Dixie.  The teams tied 40-40 in rebounding.
 
In the men's game, Ferrum trailed 70-67 with one second remaining in regulation.  The Panthers in-bounded the ball under Greensboro's basket and freshman RaRa Cunningham (Asheville, N.C./AC Reynolds), pictured at left, took two dribbles and nailed a three-point basket from approximately 10 feet behind half-court to send the game into overtime at 70-70.  Greensboro would go on to outscore Ferrum 8-6 in OT for the final 78-76 score.

Sophomore Justin Harris (Danville, Va./George Washington) led Ferrum with 22 points and seven rebounds.  Freshman Dennis Thomason (Hinesville, Ga./Bradwell Institute) had 18 points and six rebounds, junior Kevin Aigbe (Nashville, Tenn./Volunteer State CC) had 12 points.  Cunningham closed with 10 points on the night.  Greensboro out-rebounded Ferrum 34-29.
