Durham, Eatmon Earn Dixie Hoop Honors
Player of the Week Awards Given to Each
 
Ferrum, Va. – Ferrum College had a pair of basketball players honored by the Dixie Conference this week for their play in the 2002-03 season-opening weekend.
 
Junior Tanisha Durham (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) has been named Women's Basketball Player of the Week.  Durham averaged 20 points and 10.5 rebounds in a pair of games at the Lynchburg Tip-Off Tournament, held Nov. 22-23.  Ferrum went 1-1 at the tournament, losing to Roanoke College and defeating Lynchburg.  Durham, pictured above left, was named to the All-Tournament team and was the Tournament MVP.  She was a Dixie All-Conference first team selection a year ago, averaging 14.2 points and 5.5 rebounds.
 
Freshman Jamaal Eatmon (Raleigh, N.C. Broughton) has been named Dixie Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.  Eatmon averaged 18 points last weekend for the Panthers as they opened the season with a loss to Goucher College and a double-overtime win over Greensboro College.  Both games were played at the Salem Bank & Trust Tournament, hosted Nov. 23-24 by Roanoke College.  Against Greensboro, Eatmon had 23 points.
 
The Ferrum men are 2-1 with tonight's 83-80 road win over Lynchburg College.  In that game, sophomore Justin Harris (Danville, Va./George Washington) led Ferrum with 21 points and 9 rebounds.  Freshman RaRa Cunningham (Asheville, N.C./AC Reynolds) had 15 points, while Eatmon had 11 points and seven assists.  The Panthers return to action this weekend when they compete in the Emory & Henry College Invitational Nov. 30 through Dec. 1.  
 
The Ferrum women are 1-1 overall and will be back in action Nov. 30 through Dec. 1 at the Methodist College Thanksgiving Shootout in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
