Harris Named to All-Conference Volleyball Team
Junior a Second-Team Selection
Ferrum, Va. – Ferrum College's Shermika
Harris (Martinsville, Va./Laurel Park) has been named to the
2002 Dixie Conference's All-Conference Volleyball Team as a
second-team selection.
-
- A 6'2" junior outside hitter, Harris closed out the season
with 409 kills and a .359 attack percentage. She also recorded
34 service aces, 166 digs, and 71 blocks. She played in 30 of
Ferrum's 31 matches this season. She led the team in kills and
attack percentage, while finishing second in blocks. Harris
finished 4th in the Dixie Conference in hitting percentage, and
fourth in kills per game with a 3.59 kills/game average.
-
- This is the second sport in which Harris has earned All-Conference
honors for Ferrum. As a freshman with the Ferrum women's
basketball team in 1999-2000, Harris was an All-Conference second
team selection and the Dixie Women's Basketball Rookie of the
Year. She was named to the league's post-season tournament
All-Tournament team at the close of the 2000 season.
-
- Head Coach Kelly Caputo's team finished the season at 7-24
overall, and was sixth in the league standings at 4-10 against Dixie
opponents. Ferrum played #3 seed Averett University in the
first round of the Dixie Conference Tournament, held Friday and
Saturday, Nov. 8-9, at Greensboro College, losing 3-0 to end its
season.
-
- A highlight of the season was Ferrum's stretch from October 26
through November 2nd in which the Panthers won four of five
matches. The wins included Dixie matches with Chowan College,
Shenandoah University, and Methodist College. The Panthers
also defeated well as a non-conference win over Lynchburg
College. For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
