Cross Country Teams Successful at Dixie Meet
Women' Place Second, Men Third
 
Ferrum, Va. - The Ferrum College women's and men's cross country teams finished second and third, respectively, at the 2002 Dixie Conference Cross Country Championship, held at Hagan-Stone Park in Greensboro, North Carolina, October 26, 2002.
 
Junior Lalita Brim (Ararat, Va./Patrick County) was second individually, with a time of 23:03 to lead the Ferrum women to a second-place team finish.  This marks the third consecutive year that Ferrum's women have earned runner-up honors in the Dixie.  Brim, pictured here, earned her third All-Conference first team honor, having placed second in 2001 and third in 2000.

Sophomore Kelly Bradish (Candler, N.C./Enka) earned her second consecutive All-Conference award with a 10-place finish in a time of 25:02.  Senior Julie Burton (Nathalie, Va./Halifax County) earned her fourth straight All-Conference award with her 11th-place finish in a time of 25:25.  Both runners earned All-Conference second team honors this afternoon.

Christopher Newport University won the team title with 19 points, followed by Ferrum at 57 and Shenandoah University at 107.  Rounding out the team scores were Methodist College at 110, Greensboro College at 125, and Averett University at 140.
 
On the men's side, junior Dwayne Williams (Stuart, Va./Patrick County) earned All-Conference first team honors with a 7th-place finish in a time of 28:18.  This is Williams' third straight All-Conference award.  He led Ferrum's men to a 3rd-place team finish.  

Christopher Newport won the men's race with a score of 15 points.  Greensboro was second at 61, followed by Ferrum at 65, Averett at 113, Methodist at 138, and Shenandoah at 189.  For more information, contact the Ferrum Sports Information Office at 365-4306.
