Ferrum Soccer Teams Both Win
Women's Team Snaps Losing Streak 
 
Ferrum, Va. - The Ferrum College men's and women's soccer teams both picked up wins on the road yesterday, the women winning 4-1 at Sweet Briar College, while the men won 5-2 at Chowan College.
 
For the women, the win snapped a 14-match losing streak, dating back to October 14, 2001.  The Panthers were 0-12 this season heading into the non-conference match with Sweet Briar.  Senior forward Carrie Conques (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI) had three goals and an assist to lead Ferrum.  She leads the team in scoring with nine goals and a pair of assists for 20 points.  Conques, pictured above, led the Panthers a year ago as well, registering four goals and three assists for 11 points.

Sophomore midfielder Erin Williams (Montgomery Village, Md./Wootton ) also had a goal and an assist for the Panthers.  Williams is second in scoring with a pair of goals and four assists for eight points this season.

In the men's win over Chowan, a Dixie Conference opponent, senior midfielder Curtis Bumgardner (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) and sophomore midfielder RJ Tanyi (Houston, Tex./Baptist, France) led the team.  Bumgardner had a goal and two assists, while Tanyi had a pair of goals.

Sophomore forward Adrian Pedraza (Orlando, Fla./Lyman) had a goal against Chowan as well.  Pedraza leads the team in scoring this season with 10 goals and two assists for 22 points.  Sophomore Mario Erazo (Orlando, Fla./Lyman) also had a goal and an assist in the win.  Erazo is second in team scoring with five goals and five assists for 15 points.  Senior Rod Baker (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) and sophomore Ryan Schilling (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) combined to register six saves for Ferrum.
 
Ferrum's women improve to 1-12, while Sweet Briar fell to 1-15.  The Ferrum men improve to 4-11-1 overall with the win, 1-3-1 in the Dixie.  Chowan falls to 2-10 overall and remains winless in the Dixie at 0-5.  For more information, contact the Ferrum Sports Information Office at 365-4306.
