Jackson Earns Dixie Conference Honor
Freshman Guard Named Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
 
Ferrum, Va. –  Freshman Chris Jackson (Clayton, N.C./Garner) has been named Dixie Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for his play in three Ferrum games last week.
 
Jackson scored 16 points in all three games last week, a 74-70 home win over Lynchburg College Jan. 2nd, a 70-63 loss to Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Jan. 4th, and an 83-79 loss to SUNY Institute of Technology Jan. 5th.  
 
The last two games were at the Rinso Marquette Tournament, hosted Jan. 4-5 by Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania.  Jackson was named to the All-Tournament team at the Rinso Marquette Tournament.  He is currently Ferrum's 3rd-leading scorer with 12.0 points per game, tying for 11th in the Dixie.  His .500 (23-46) three-point field goal percentage is tops on the team, and ties his for second in the Dixie.  He 23 three-points field goals made ranks him second in the Dixie.
 
Also nominated for this week's Dixie Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week award were Andy Perry of Chowan College and Mark Hepner of Christopher Newport University.
 
Ferrum (3-6) will return to action Thursday, Jan. 9th, when it plays at Savannah College of Art & Design.  The Panthers then open Dixie Conference play when they host Averett University Jan. 15th at 7:30 p.m.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
