- Ferrum Women Beat Averett 73-53
- Four Players Score in Double Figures in Dixie Opener

- Ferrum, Va. – Junior forward Tanisha
Durham (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) led all scorers with 21
points and had a game-high 10 rebounds as the Ferrum
College women's basketball team defeated Averett University 73-53
at home tonight. The game served as both teams' Dixie
Conference opener.

- Durham shot 10-19 from the floor, and recorded four steals and
three assists. She was one of four Ferrum players to score
in double figures. Junior center Shermika
Harris (Martinsville, Va./Laurel Park) had 12 points, eight
rebounds, and four assists for Ferrum, while sophomore guard Amber
Triplett (Bassett, Va./Bassett) had 11 points.

Senior
forward Tina
McBride (Glade Hill, Va./Franklin County) had 10 points, while
sophomore point guard Tara
Toland (North, S.C./North) had eight points, seven assists,
and six rebounds. Toland,
pictured at left, was ranked #14 in the nation in steals per game
(4.2) as listed in this week’s NCAA Division III women’s
basketball statistical rankings at the beginning of this week.

- Ferrum led 44-16 at halftime and led by as many
as 35 points with 11:32 remaining in the game. The Panthers
improve to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the Dixie. Averett remains
winless at 0-10 (0-1 Dixie) with the loss.
