Harris Scores 28 as Ferrum Men Upend Averett
Sophomore Sizzles in Dixie Conference Opener
 
Ferrum, Va. –  Ferrum College sophomore forward Justin Harris (Danville, Va./George Washington) exploded for 28 points as the Panthers defeated Averett University 83-78 in the Dixie Conference opener for both schools.
 
Harris, pictured at right, went 12-16 from the floor and 4-7 from the line, and pulled down 12 rebounds.  He is Ferrum's leading scorer and rebounder this season, averaging 16.4 points and 8.6 rebounds through Ferrum's first 11 games.  
 
Harris has scored in double figures seven times this season, including five 20+ point games.  He was ranked 9th in the nation in NCAA Division III field goal percentage (.655) coming into tonight's game.
 
Freshmen Jamaal Eatmon (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) and Chris Jackson (Clayton, N.C./Garner) each had 11 points for Ferrum.  Jackson was successful on three of nine three-point field goal attempts tonight, and is shooting 45 percent from behind the arc this season.  Jackson came into tonight's game tied for 5th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (.500).
 
Ferrum is now 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the Dixie, while Averett falls to 1-10 overall and 0-1 in league play.  Ferrum will play at Christopher Newport University Saturday at 4 p.m. and at Randolph-Macon Sunday at 3 p.m.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
