David Harper '89
Ferrum, Virginia
 
Harper was a co-captain and linebacker for the Ferrum College football team from 1986-89. He was named an All-American by Kodak in 1987 and 1988, Pizza Hut/CoSIDA in 1988, Football News in 1988 and Associated Press in 1988.  Harper was a member of the 1987 Ferrum College team, which made the first NCAA playoff appearance in school history. Harper was the first Ferrum Athlete to have his jersey, #56, retired. He was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Roanoke Times in 1988. Received a bachelor of science degree in recreation and leisure from Ferrum College.  Harper holds six school defensive records including career solo tackles and career total tackles.  He was a member of the team with the longest winning streak in Ferrum College history.  Harper is actively involved in the community through his involvement in Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.  He conducts coaching clinics for Franklin County Pee Wee Football Coaches.  Harper has served as director of Pee Wee Football camps and clinics for Franklin County youths.
Gregory Lynn “Mickey” Hardy '80 
Roanoke, Virginia
 
Mickey was a member of the Ferrum College basketball team from 1978-1980. He was co-captain of the 1978 basketball team.  He was recognized as the fifth leading scorer in the nation in 1978. That same year he was named most valuable player and made the All Region Ten Team and again 1979. He received All-American Honorable Mention in 1979. He graduated from Ferrum College with an associate of science degree. He then received a bachelor of science degree in physical education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Radford University. Mickey coaches AAU basketball for kids under fifteen.  He currently serves as counselor and recreation coordinator for the Roanoke Juvenile Detention Center and as an assistant basketball coach at William Fleming High School.

ou was named co-captain while playing middle linebacker for the Ferrum College football team. He was a member of the 1966 National Junior College Championship Team.  He attended Ferrum from 1965 to 1967 and played baseball as well as football.  He was named a 1st Team Junior College All-American. He continued his education at Georgia Institute of Technology where he played football and received a bachelor of science degree in industrial management.  He joined the US Gypsum President’s Club in 1972 for Outstanding Sales.  He is actively involved in his community through St. John’s Episcopal Church.  As his children were growing up, he volunteered with the Mecklenburg Aquatics Club and Little League Baseball. He is currently President of Environamics, Inc.
Chris Warren '89
Clifton Forge, Virginia
 
Chris played football while attending Ferrum College.  He led the Ferrum College Panthers to consecutive Division III South Region Championships. In 1988 and 1989 he was named an All-American. He set numerous season and career Ferrum College records including scoring, total touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, all purpose yards, punt return yards and punt returns.  He also set the record for the longest run from scrimmage in a game versus Emory & Henry College in 1989.  He was a member of the 1988 football team that recorded the longest winning streak of 11 games. He holds the record of five for most returned touchdowns in a single season, set in 1989.  He participated in the 1990 Senior Bowl.  He was named ECAC Division III South Player of the Year in 1989 and VASID State College Division Player of the Year in 1988 and 1989.  He was the first player in Ferrum College history to be selected in the National Football League draft. Chris is currently a running back in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys.
Paul E. Pope, Sr. '72
Orlando, Florida 
 
Paul played football and participated in track while attending Ferrum College.  He was a member of the undefeated 1971 Coastal Conference Championship football team.  He graduated from Ferrum College with an associate of science degree. He was named to the 1st Team Region Ten NJCAA in 1971 and 1972 for shot put as a member of the Ferrum College track team.  He was conference shot put champion, ranked fourth in the state of Virginia and set both school and Region Ten records in 1971.  He continued his education and participation in football and track at the University of Richmond and Elon College.  He played professional football for the Birmingham Vulcans in the World Football League in 1975 and the Ottawa Rough Riders in the Canadian Football League in 1976.  He began his coaching career in 1975 at Lake Highland Preparatory School.  He earned Region Six Coach of the Year honors in 1994 for football and Coach of the Year Metro Conference 1988-1992 for weightlifting. He received the 1990 Orange County Public Schools Innovative Teacher Award.  He serves Pine Castle Church as a Sunday school teacher and nursery volunteer.  He is actively involved in the Orlando community as a member of the Jaycees, South Orlando Community Center and as volunteer director for the State of Florida Weightlifting Meets.  Paul is currently a teacher and coach for William R. Boone High School in the Orange County Public School System.
