#3 York Holds on for 4-3 Win, Eliminates #2 Salisbury
FERRUM, Va. -- In an elimination game at the NCAA Division III
Baseball Regional at Ferrum College, #3 seed York College (Pa.)
picked up a 4-3 win over #2 Salisbury University to stay alive.
Box Score: York 4, Salisbury 3
Tied at 1-1 after three innings, York picked up a run in the fourth
and two in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. RF Dennis Maxim led
off the sixth with a double to right field, advanced to third on a
wild pitch, then scored on another wild pitch. 2B Ryan Craig
later singled, advanced on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
Craig was the only York player to record more than one hit, going
2-5 with a run.
Salisbury scored a run each in the eighth and ninth innings to trim
the lead but the Spartans held on to advance to this afternoon's
4:40 p.m. game against Methodist University. CF Colin Kraus
reached on a walk and later scored on a passed ball in the eight.
1B Mike Calenza then drilled the first pitch he saw over the right
field wall to trim the lead to 4-3 in the top of the ninth inning.
Starter Jason Christenberry got the win for York. He
surrendered five hits over six innings, allowing one earned run,
while striking out three and walking none. Chris Brower
pitched the last three innings to get the save, allowing two hits
and an earned run. Brower fanned two of the 12 batters he
faced and walked three.
Starter Bryan Brainer absorbed the loss for Salisbury (33-10),
pitching eight innings and allowing eight hits and two earned runs.
