Top Seed Emory Advances with Win Over Methodist

FERRUM, Va. -- #1 seed Emory University advanced in NCAA Division III Baseball Regional play at Ferrum with a 9-3 win over #4 Methodist University tonight at Ferrum College.

Box Score: Emory 9, Methodist 3

Emory was led by 3B Frank Pfister, who went 4-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI.  2b Joe Roth went 3-4 and went 3-4 with double, three runs a pair of RBI.  DH Sam Cunningham went 2-5 with double, triple, two runs and three RBI.  Jason Glushon got the win for Emory.  He pitched seven innings with three earned runs, eight hits and four strikeouts.

Jonathan Spivey led Methodist went 3-3 with a double and two runs.  Kurt Kelly absorbed the loss.  He pitched 6.2 innings, surrendered 11 hits and nine runs (4 earned), while striking out one and walking one.

Emory (37-7) will now face host Ferrum (25-16)  in the 1:15 p.m. game Friday afternoon, May 18, in a battle of the only still unbeaten teams in the regional.  The Panthers were a 5-3 winner over #2 Salisbury University earlier in the day.  The tournament's remaining schedule is below.
