Ferrum Outlasts Emory to Force
Final Game Sunday
FERRUM, Va. – The Ferrum College baseball team took top-seeded Emory
University to extra innings before blowing the game open in the 12th
inning for an 11-6 win in the NCAA Division III South Region
Baseball tournament. The win by Ferrum forces a final championship
game on Sunday afternoon in the double-elimination tournament.

Ferrum took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning only to
see Emory score twice to force extra innings. After two scoreless
innings, Ferrum’s offense exploded for six runs in the top of the 12th
inning to put the game out of reach. Emory scored one in the bottom
of the 12th and had bases loaded before pitch Brian
Bowles could close the game.
For Ferrum, Brent Sowers went 3-6 with two runs and two RBIs, Matt
Gammon was 3-7 with a double one run and two RBIs, Eric Harrell went
3-5 with a triple 2 runs and an RBI, and Jesse Fuller was 3-6 with a
triple and two runs. Starting pitcher Jon Wilson surrendered three
runs on 11 hits through eight innings. Brian Bowles gave up three
runs on four hits over the final four innings and picked up the win.
For Emory, Tommy Dugan was 3-6 with a run and an RBI, David Hissey
was 2-5 with two runs, Zander Sotiriou was 2-5, and Brandon Custer
had three RBIs.
Ferrum improves to 27-17 on the year, Emory is 38-8. The teams will
meet on Sunday at 12 noon for a berth in the NCAA Division III
Baseball World Series in Appleton, Wis.
