York Eliminates Methodist with 5-1 Win; Spartans Play Ferrum Saturday at Noon

FERRUM, Va. -- The #3 seeded York College (Pa.) Spartans won their third straight game, defeating #4 Methodist University 5-1 to stay alive in the NCAA Div. III Baseball Regional at Ferrum.  The win was also York’s third straight game in which it staved off elimination.

The win sent Methodist (30-15) home and put York into yet another elimination game, this one against #6 Ferrum College at noon Saturday.  The winner will advance to the championship at 4 p.m. against #1 Emory University.

For York (32-13), Mike Connolly went 3-4 with a run and an RBI.  Ryan Craig was 2-4 with a run scored, and Anthony Anzalone drove in two runs.  Kyle Eudy and Scott Russell both went 2-4 for Methodist, Russell had an RBI.

Matt Austin picked up the complete game win for York.  He surrendered one earned run on seven hits, while striking out four Monarchs over nine innings.
