Tournament with 21-11 Win Over Mary Washington

University put up 24 base hits en route to a 21-11 win over Capital
Athletic Conference opponent Mary Washington College in the 2004
NCAA Division III Baseball Regional in Martinsville, Virginia.
With the win, Salisbury remains undefeated in the regional and it
sets up a showdown between #1 Emory University (42-4) and #2
Salisbury (35-11) in Game #7 at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The Sea Gulls twice had 13-run leads only to see Mary Washington cut
the deficit to five runs in the seventh inning, but Salisbury put
the game away with a five-run ninth inning. For Salisbury, it
was a season-high for both runs and hits.
OF Mike Williams went 5-5 with seven RBI and five runs. His
grand slam homer in the third inning, when the Sea Gulls scored six
runs to open an 8-0 lead. 2B Greg Lemon, 1B Nick Pegelow, C
Matt Johnson and SS Brandon Mason each had three hits for Salisbury.
DH Rob Kassekert and CF Matt Mollet each had two hits. In
addition, eight of nine starters had at least one RBI.
Right-hander Nick Dunk (7-4) worked five innings for the win.
He scattered eight hits and allowed three runs, with no walks or
strikeouts. Salisbury threw five pitchers, with Brian Shipe
(pictured above) throwing 2.1 innings to close out the game. Stefan Schoen
(7-3) was credited with the loss for Mary Washington (30-11).
He was one of five Eagles to take the mound tonight. Schoen
allowed eight runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings with three
strikeouts and two walks.
For Mary Washington, 3B Mark Logan went 4-5 with two runs and two
RBI. RF Tim Stoner went 3-5 with three runs and three RBI.
In addition, LF Jon Hurd, 1B Jay Quintana, and 2B Tom McDermott, and
DH Lee Rubin each went 2-5. Mary Washington plays Methodist
College (28-18) Saturday at 3 p.m. in an elimination game.

- The NCAA Division III Baseball
Regional is being co-hosted by the City of Martinsville,
Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, and Ferrum College.
The tournament runs from through Sunday, May 23, with all games
being played at Hooker Field. The champion will advance to NCAA
Championship to be held May 28 through June 1 in Fox Cities,
Wisconsin.
