Mary Washington Advances with 6-1 Win
Eagles Defeat Virginia Wesleyan in NCAA Baseball Regional
 
MARTINSVILLE, VA - Mary Washington College picked up a 6-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan College in Game #3 of the NCAA Division III Baseball Regional, played at Hooker Field in Martinsville, Virginia.

Outfielder Jon Hurd went 3-5 with a double and a pair of runs for the Eagles.  Outfielder Mike O'Donnell hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give Mary Washington a commanding 6-0 lead.  Kevin Foeman (12-2) pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts and no walks, allowing 13 hits.

Virginia Wesleyan out-hit Mary Washington 13-7.  Second baseman Brandon Hill went for the Marlins.  First baseman Steven Hatcher, and catcher Mike Supa each had a pair of hits in the losing effort.  Derrick Rawlings (7-2) was credited with the loss.  He allowed six hits and six runs over six innings, walked two and struck out two.

With the win, #4 seed Mary Washington improves to 30-10, while #3 Virginia Wesleyan falls to 31-11.  Virginia Wesleyan will face #1 Emory University (41-4) tomorrow at 3 p.m.  Mary Washington will play #2 Salisbury University (34-11) tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The NCAA Division III Baseball Regional is being co-hosted by the City of Martinsville, Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, and Ferrum College.  The tournament runs from through Sunday, May 23, with all games being played at Hooker Field.  The champion will advance to NCAA Championship to be held May 28 through June 1 in Fox Cities, Wisconsin.
