The Tutoring Center provides academic support through peer-tutoring and faculty assistance for students enrolled in Ferrum College. Through the Peer Assisted Learning program (PAL) peer-tutoring is provided primarily for introductory level courses by students who have excelled in course work, been recommended by the professor, and who have applied and been hired by ARC faculty. One-on-one peer tutoring is also available through an “on-call” system which is initiated by the student. On occasion study/review sessions are scheduled for classes not involved in the PAL program.

PAL study sessions are established in each class involved in the program, as the PAL facilitator attends each class. Study sessions are scheduled for twice a week, but extra sessions are called prior to major tests. Students have access to phone numbers for tutors and may schedule individual appointments with tutors in the ARC during any of the Tutoring Center's weekly hours of operation, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m..

The Writing Center is also housed in the Tutoring Center, and is operated by faculty from the English department . Students may receive assistance from the Writing Center faculty as they prepare papers for any course offered on campus. This assistance is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 1:00 - 4:30 p.m., Thursday 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

A Math Center has been established and provides assistance to all students two evenings each week. Dr. Steve Mason is available to work with students in classes that cover all levels of math at Ferrum College. He is occasionally assisted by peer tutors not involved in the PAL program who are upper level students majoring in math. Math Center hours this semester are:

These services are available to students enrolled in Ferrum College at no additional cost to the student.
