The ARC supports the opportunity for experiential learning, E-term, enhancing academic development through emersion in subject, travel, intensive research, working with experts and hands-on learning. Experiential Term
Experiential Term (E-Term) is a three week term which offers a variety of two, three and four credit hour courses for all students enrolled at Ferrum College. Courses offered in E-Term are from across the curriculum, including courses from the liberal arts core of required courses, to courses that meet speaking and writing intensive requirements, and courses that offer an experiential opportunity in one of our 32 majors and/or 33 minors. August Term (CSK 100) offers a two-week summer course in which incoming freshmen can earn two elective credits. This emersion program is designed to facilitate academic, social and personal growth as well as to ease the transition from high school to college. During this course students devote class time to intensive work in math, composition, computer use, and active learning in all areas preparing them for their first semester of college. Student participate in curricular and co-curricular activities which also helps them understand the college environment, adjust to living on a college campus, and develop critical thinking skills as well as a sense of community. Disability Services
Disability Services offers the opportunity for students with documentation of disabilities that affect academic performance to utilize academic accommodations that enhance academic success. All services are based on documentation submitted by the student to the director of disability services, and are provided in consultation between the office of Disability Services (DS) faculty and the student. The Gateway Program is designed to help new students succeed at Ferrum. Through this program, students are introduced to the responsibilities and privileges of living and learning in an academic community. The program consists of four components: Panther PAWS, Gateway Weekend, freshman advising, and the Ferrum Gateway Seminar.
