Folktale Collections Indexed in AppLit

Below is a list of the folktale collections that are most thoroughly indexed in this web site, with their contents in alphabetical order. In some cases these books contain a few other songs, rhymes or riddles not listed here, or other non-Appalachian sections. Links on names of authors/editors go to pages devoted to them in AppLit or their own web sites. No link on a tale listed below means that it is not described in Applit's Annotated Index of Appalachian Folktales or reprinted in AppLit's Fiction and Poems section at this time. Many other tales from dozens of collections and picture books are listed in AppLit's bibliographies. For a more complete alphabetical list of folktales, see Combined List of All Appalachian Tales in Applit's Annotated Index.
