After speaking with the Red Cross of both Roanoke City and Franklin County it has been strongly suggested that Ferrum College begin signing up for blood donations (call x5059) and give as a community at a scheduled Blood Drive in early November on campus.

     The Red Cross has been literally flooded with people and there are a number of reasons suggested for asking us to wait until they can come to us in November: those wishing to make appointments will find that they are booked into October; the Red Cross stated that with the rush of donations now, the need for blood in November will be just as great; those that give now will not be able to give again for 56 days, meaning the more convenient and safe time to give in November will be missed; those determined to drive in expecting to walk-in and donate will find at least a 2 hour wait and no guarantee that you will be seen that day.

     APO was asked specifically by the Red Cross to educate the campus on the current situation and their preference that we begin signing up for a large donation on November 6.
