Steps to Become a Ferrum Panther

No matter where you are in the process of becoming a Ferrum Panther, our Admissions team is eager to help you figure out your next steps!  Here are some tips to get you started.

High School Juniors / Seniors

 

Ferrum College has a rolling admissions process, which means we do not have an application deadline. However, there are advantages to applying as early in your senior year as possible.

 

Junior Year

  • Register for admissions tests. Take the PSAT exam in the fall and the SAT or ACT in the spring.
    Check with your guidance counselor for dates. Be sure to list Ferrum to receive your S
    AT/ACT scores by listing our code (5213 for the SAT and 4352 for the ACT).Campus in the Fall

  • Talk to a Ferrum Admissions counselor.
    Ferrum reps visit many individual high schools and college fairs throughout the year. Watch for announcements at your school to learn when we will be at or near your high school. Ferrum participates in most Virginia college fairs and many in other nearby states.

  • Come Visit Us! 
    Visiting us is one great way to discover if Ferrum will be a good fit for you. We hope and believe it will be! Attend a Panther Preview (Open House) Program or schedule an appointment for a private visit to Ferrum. Panther Preview dates are listed on our website, and you may also receive mail and e-mail communications about them.

  • Ask Questions.

Senior Year

  • Apply to Ferrum College! 

    Apply online
    for free!  Also watch the mail for your Ferrum application package!  Take advantage of early application benefits.

    Students outside Franklin

  • Take or retake the SAT or ACT if you aren't pleased with your scores or if you want to improve your opportunities for getting a better merit scholarship. Check with your guidance counselor for fall and spring test dates. Be sure to list Ferrum's code (5213 for the SAT and 4352 for the ACT) for us to receive a copy of your scores. International students who do not take the SAT or ACT are required to complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

  • Come Visit Us!
    Visiting us is one great way to discover if Ferrum will be a good fit for you. We hope and believe it will be! If you haven't already attended one of our Panther Preview (Open House) programs, then make plans to attend one in the fall!

    Take advantage of early application benefits and be sure to ask your guidance office to send us a copy of your high school transcript early in your senior year.

  • Apply for Financial Aid. 
    After January 1, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the March 1 priority deadline or as early as possible.

  • Meet with a Ferrum Financial Aid staff member. 
    After receiving your Ferrum financial aid award, talk with our financial aid staff about a four-year financial plan.


  • Seal the Deal.
    Students with PantherAs soon as you receive your acceptance letter and know that Ferrum is the right place for you, notify us of your decision by submitting your $250 confirmation deposit to officially enroll and to begin making arrangements for housing, orientation, your class schedule, and your arrival at Ferrum!  You can pay your confirmation deposit online from your Panther Tracks account or by calling us at 1-800-868-9797, option 1. Visit our Accepted Students page to find out more!

  • Send your final transcript.
    Ask your guidance office to send us a copy of your final high school transcript upon graduation.

  • Get to know your fellow new Panthers online!  
    We have a secret Facebook page for the accepted and enrolled students of your entering class! Add your Admissions Counselor as a friend on Facebook, and request to be added to the Facebook group for enrolled students. Once you've been added, introduce yourself, start getting to know your peers, and maybe even find a roommate!

Transfer Students


At any time you are interested in transferring to Ferrum College, you can start the transfer process with our Admissions office! 

Please Note: If you have been out of high school for less than one year, or have completed fewer than 24 college credits, your high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores are also required. If you have been out of high school for more than one year and have completed fewer than 24 college credits, your high school transcript and a letter explaining all gaps of educational history are required.

    You may also request a paper application to be mailed to you or you may complete one during a visit to our campus. Take advantage of our early application benefits by applying early in the academic year (September - January).

  • Send us your college transcript(s)! 
    For each college you have attended, please request that your official transcript be sent to us.

  • Apply for Financial Aid.
