Pre-college checklist
Junior Year
- » Register and take the PSAT exam in the fall and the SAT or ACT in the spring. Check with your guidance counselor for dates. Be sure to list Ferrum to receive your SAT/ACT scores by listing our code (5213 for the SAT and 4352 for the ACT).
- » Talk to a Ferrum admission representative. Ferrum reps visit many individual high schools and college fairs throughout the year. Watch for announcements at your school to learn when we will be at or near your high school. Ferrum participates in all Virginia college fairs and many in other nearby states.
- » Come visit us! Attend an Open House Program or schedule an appointment for a private visit to Ferrum. Dates will be advertised on the website and mailed to you.
- » Ask questions. Call 1-800-868-9797 or e-mail the Ferrum Admissions Office with any questions you may have about our campus and/or programs.
- » Stay informed. Visit the Ferrum website often to keep up with all the latest news from Ferrum!
Over the Summer
- » Come visit us! Attend an Open House Program or schedule an appointment for a private visit to Ferrum. Dates will be advertised on the website and mailed to you.

Senior Year
- » Watch the mail for your Ferrum application package! You can also apply online.
- » Take or retake the SAT or ACT if you aren’t pleased with your scores, or want to improve your opportunities for getting a better merit scholarship. Check with your guidance counselor for fall and spring test dates. Be sure to list Ferrum’s code (5213 for the SAT and 4352 for the ACT) for us to receive a copy of your scores. International students who do not take the SAT or ACT are required to complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- » Continue gathering information about Ferrum.
- » Ask questions. Call 1-800-868-9797 or e-mail the Ferrum Admissions Office with any questions you may have about our campus and/or programs.
- » Come visit us! Attend an Open House Program or schedule an appointment for a private visit to Ferrum. Dates will be advertised on the website and mailed to you.
- » Take advantage of early application benefits. Be sure to ask your guidance office to send us a copy of your high school transcript.
- » Apply for financial aid. After January 1, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the March 1 priority deadline or as early as possible.
- » Meet with a Ferrum financial aid staff member. After receiving your Ferrum financial aid award, talk with our financial aid staff about a four-year financial plan.
- » Seal the deal. As soon as you receive your acceptance letter and know that Ferrum is the right place for you, notify us of your decision by submitting your $200 confirmation deposit to begin making arrangements for housing, orientation, and your arrival at Ferrum!
- » Send your final transcript. Ask your guidance office to send us a copy of your final high school transcript upon graduation.
Ferrum College has a rolling admissions process, which means we do not have an application deadline. However, there are advantages to applying as early in your senior year as possible.
