The Connection and the 7 Challenges

What are the challenges of the Weekend? We begin with one of the most popular college orientation programs in the nation, Playfair.  Get to know your fellow students in the Freshman Class or your fellow transfer students in this popular event. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday your Connection Group will join half of the new students on either the Black Team or the Gold Team. Your team will rotate through the challenges over the Connection Weekend.  All of these Challenges are requires as part of the Connection Program.

1. Playfair in the YMCA – Playfair is one of the most popular orientation programs in the nation. It will help you get to know your fellow students.

2. Stop Hunger Now Pack Challenge – The SHN Pack serves as a model of the Ferrum College motto:  "Not Self, But Others."  The greatest challenge of all is the Stop Hunger Now packing event. Our new students, O-Team Leaders, and community members will pack 50,000 meals to send to help feed children in 3rd world countries.

3.  Not Self, But Others – Learn more about the Ferrum College motto and how it will help you become a successful student.

4. Life at Ferrum Challenge – The Ferrum O-Team presents several skits that will prepare you for life as a Ferrum College student. The presentation includes important academic and college resource information and an edgy video tour of Franklin County. You will also take part in the CIRP National Survey.

5. Love n' Liquor Challenge – This program is a humorous look at a serious subject. This program will engage you with outstanding information about college decision-making issues. The presenter has been featured at colleges and universities all over the country.

6. The Dean's Challenge – A program designed to jump-start your transition to college life – academically and socially. You will also take the Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory that can help you confirm your decision about a major or a career goal.

7. Choices and Consequences – Life is full of making choices and decisions that can impact your life. This program provides a little help from your new Ferrum Friends.
