Freshman Scholars Program 2012

Mathematical Modeling

Instructor:  Bryan Faulkner, Ph.D.

Project Description:

Up to two students interested in mathematics.

Can patterns in a musical track be used to decide characteristics of the track (e.g., genre, composer, and instruments used) etc.?  To answer this question we will collect data from various musical tracks. One goal of the project is to first discover patterns in these tracks. The ultimate goal is to use these patterns to create mathematical models which will enable us to make decisions about the characteristics of any given musical track.
