Get a jump on your college career!

August Term is an enriched two-week Summer term for new Ferrum College freshmen, designed to prepare you for courses you will take during your first semester.   This term offers the opportunity to build and improve specific math or writing skills and in addition complete a liberal arts core requirement with a physical activity course. 

Besides getting a "jump" on academics, in the two weeks of August Term you develop lasting friendships with fellow freshmen, meet and get to know professors, learn about the campus, the facilities and resources available, and begin to become accustomed to college life.

Jumpstart Your Academic Career

For many incoming freshmen, the academic requirements change a lot from high school to college and sometimes may seem overwhelming.  To get a head start on their college career, entering Ferrum College freshmen can attend a two week course, CSK 100, Introduction to College Living and Learning.  Students have the opportunity to live on campus and choose composition or math as their focus during the two weeks.  Students will also be enrolled in and attend HHP 149, exploring healthy life choices and developing their healthy life plan.  Weekend programs with Ferrum Outdoors will offer students the opportunity to build confidence in their ability to handle the challenges they face and develop a bond with fellow freshmen and the college.  Students will have the opportunity to earn three graded credit hours by successfully completing CSK 100 and HHP 149.  Additional advantages of CSK 100 include becoming acquainted with campus, learning to communicate with faculty, and generally becoming more comfortable with college life.

Establish an Early Connection to Ferrum College

In the evenings at August Term you will be involved in organized activities which address different areas of college life, meet with faculty who are involved with August Term, use the library and computer lab for research, and take advantage of peer tutoring for the classes you are attending. You'll also have the opportunity to meet and have fun with your fellow freshmen.
