The ARC: "The Hub of Academic Support"
We strive to maximize the your opportunities for success by providing one-on-one support through tutoring, academic advising, academic counseling, coordinated study groups for most disciplines, individual attention and positive reinforcement. We provide a state-of-the-art computer lab (Hillsdale Lab) in the lobby are of the ARC. Here students may use the technology for research or completing course assignments. The ARC also has comfortable areas for both individual study or course work, as well as, large seating and table areas which may be used for group projects, study groups, or peer discussions.
The ARC supports the opportunity for experiential learning, E-term, enhancing academic development through emersion in subject, travel, intensive research, working with experts and hands-on learning. Located in the lower level of the Stanley Library the Academic Resources Center is open to students 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Experiential Term
Experiential Term (E-Term)
Experiential Term (E-Term) is a three week term which offers a variety of two, three and four credit hour courses for all students enrolled at Ferrum College. Courses offered in E-Term are from across the curriculum, including courses from the liberal arts core of required courses, to courses that meet speaking and writing intensive requirements, and courses that offer an experiential opportunity in one of our 32 majors and/or 33 minors.

- regional, national and international travel
- resume building opportunities
- development of service projects
- unique projects and experiences

August Term
August Term (CSK 100)
For many incoming freshmen, the academic requirements change a lot from high school to college and sometimes may seem overwhelming. To get a head start on their college career, entering freshmen can attend a two week course, CSK 100, Introduction to College Living and Learning in August. Students have the opportunity to live on campus and choose composition or math as their focus during the two weeks. Students will also be enrolled in and attend HHP 149, exploring healthy life choices and developing their healthy life plan. Weekend programs with Ferrum Outdoors will offer students the opportunity to build confidence in their ability to handle the challenges they face and develop a bond with fellow freshmen and the college. Students will have the opportunity to earn three graded credit hours by successfully completing CSK 100 and HHP 149. Additional advantages of CSK 100 include becoming acquainted with campus, learning to communicate with faculty, focused concentration enhancing English or Math skills, and generally becoming more comfortable with college life.

Disability Services
Disability Services
Ferrum offers specific services for students with documented disabilities. Services offered are in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitative Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Students may consult the Director of Disability Services, Ms. Nancy Beach, about academic success strategies as well as appropriate accommodations. The Disability Services has a variety of options available. For example, some students choose to use the lab computers for taking test or completing in-class assignments, and equipment is accessible for scanning printed text to use with computer screen readers. While services are offered at no additional cost for students with appropriate documentation, the student must assume the responsibility for requesting assistance and accepting offered options. Gateway Program
The Gateway Program is designed to help students succeed at Ferrum. Through this program students are introduced to the responsibilities and privileges of living and learning in an academic community. The program consists of four components: Panther PAWS, Gateway Weekend, Freshman Advising and Ferrum Freshman Gateway Seminar. Parent Liaison
In cases where students may need to miss class for personal reasons (illness, family emergency, etc.), parents of family members may contact the Parent Liaison, Ms. Betsy Smith, by phone at (540) 365-4270 or e-mail at bsmith@ferrum.edu Ms. Smith will notify the students professors and advisor, as well as appropriate campus offices, of the student’s absence. The Parent Liaison can also help address any academic concerns or questions parents may have.
