Ferrum College is proud to welcome the class of 2018 as we begin our 101st year! Colleges
today strive to achieve a healthy balance between freedom and responsibility regarding
the student experience. To that end, we at Ferrum emphasize that students must take
personal responsibility and be mindful of the risks associated with alcohol and drug
use. Further, the entire campus community is educated about our expectations regarding
sexual respect and sexual misconduct. The issue of sexual assault on college campuses
has received national attention in recent months, and federal and state legislators
are quickly setting forth recommendations for action. Our faculty, staff, and students
have been working on this issue in a variety of ways, including during student orientation.
We have a long-standing policy focused on educating students on this topic and this
fall we are enacting additional measures to enhance our campus-wide training, including
a website that provides information about sexual violence and how to report it - http://www.ferrum.edu/campus_life/campus_safety_procedures.html.

Birthday Cards: In order to promote awareness about the dangers of alcohol poisoning,
the Office of Student Affairs has recently begun sending special birthday and wallet

The Student Affairs Division of Ferrum College fully supports and is committed to
advancing the ideals of the College’s Mission Statement to developing the whole student,
both in openness to a wide range of intellectual discovery, and in the physical, spiritual
and social aspects of life. Our purpose is to serve students who are attracted to
our residential learning community, provide a wide range of opportunities for personal
growth and value formation, experiential learning, and academic achievement in a supportive
To this end we recognize the value of partnership within the Division as well as with
other Divisions of the College and in particular, the students we serve. Through these
partnerships we will educate one another that all activities at Ferrum are an integral
part of the learning experience. We believe the curriculum at Ferrum includes all
experiences both in and out of the formal classroom.
Central to this endeavor is the student learner. We appreciate and respect the abilities,
values and pursuits each brings to Ferrum College. We accept this awesome responsibility
with humility and confidence that as a team we prepare ourselves daily to assist these
