Manager of Papa John's

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a manager to assume responsibility for all functions of our two (2) Papa John’s restaurants, serving our student and employee population, as well as the public. This manager will deliver high quality products and customer service to ensure restaurant success by being a self-sufficient and professional leader, making quality decisions, and instilling pride and accountability in team members. Responsibilities include the management of all unit operations while executing all College and Papa John’s policies, procedures, programs and systems. This position ensures compliance with all federal, state and local laws, including health codes, and ethical business practices. 

This is a full time, 40-hour per week, non-exempt position requiring varying work schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays. The successful candidate will be very reliable and have excellent managerial skills to ensure successful operation. Must have strong communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain a strong and successful team. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.


A high school diploma is required, as is a stable employment history and 3-5 years’ successful restaurant management experience. Previous Papa John’s experience highly preferred. Must have excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products and point-of-sale systems. A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.

On-Call Driver

Ferrum College is accepting applications for an On-Call Driver to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be College-owned or provided. Responsibilities may include transporting students, employees, and/or guests on College-sponsored field trips or to special events; transporting exhibits; providing other off-campus transportation; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping. This position may require some overnight travel. 

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger certification and a good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types of traffic and weather conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks. Drivers may be required to undergo physical exam and/or drug testing initially and periodically.   Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.

Admissions Telecounselor

 Ferrum College is seeking an Admissions Telecounselor to contact prospective students and to educate them about scholarship opportunities and other aspects of Ferrum College. The candidate will represent the College in a professional manner in all telecounseling and admissions activities and will accurately reflect and portray the mission of the College. 

The position reports to the Coordinator of Telecounseling and the Associate Dean of Admissions. Responsibilities include effectively communicating with prospective students about scholarship opportunities at Ferrum College, providing information about the college, accurately gathering and recording demographic and academic information from prospective students, conducting follow-up calls, and performing other telecounseling tasks as assigned. 

Minimum qualifications for this position are a High School Diploma, a professional telephone voice, and a strong work ethic. Assistant Athletic Trainer

Ferrum College, an NCAA Division-III member institution and member of the USA South Athletic Conference, is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full time, 12 month position with full benefits. This position will assist in providing care for Ferrum’s 19 varsity intercollegiate and 2 club sports. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing assistance to the Head Athletic Trainer in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses to over 500 student-athletes. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: providing daily health care of student-athletes, maintaining appropriate athletic training room operations, recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for treatment given, daily practice/competition coverage and some travel responsibilities of assigned sports (sport assignments to be determined), assisting with inventory maintenance and budget, and other miscellaneous job-related duties as deemed necessary by the Head Athletic Trainer. 

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; NATABOC certification; eligible for State of Virginia Athletic Training Licensure; current Professional Rescuer CPR/AED & First Aid certification; basic computer and Microsoft Office skills. Candidates should be well-organized and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.  Effective verbal and written communications skills are essential.  

Preferred qualifications: Master’s Degree; experience working in a coeducational collegiate environment; two or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer; experience with SIMS computer system; Additional certifications are desirable (First AID/CPR instructor, reputable strength and conditioning certification, Graston technique, FMS, etc.).

Head Women's Soccer Coach

Ferrum College invites applications for the position of Head Women’s Soccer Coach. The selected candidate will be responsible for the recruitment of new student athletes, retention of current players, aid in the implementation of a practice plan and weekly game plan, work with video editing software, compliance with all NCAA Division III rules as well as the USA South Athletic Conference and institutional policies and procedures, and other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics. This is a full time position with benefits. 

Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, along with successful coaching experience in soccer, preferably at the collegiate level. USSF and/or NSCAA licensing preferred. The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and be a dedicated team player. Instructional Design and Technology and Online Learning Administrator

Ferrum College is seeking a full-time, experienced learning management system and online learning administrator with an instructional design background. This is a leadership position in the area of online learning and a technical position with responsibility for providing ongoing administration, development, training and support for the Desire2Learn (D2L) Learning Environment (LE) as well as supporting faculty with teaching and learning-both seated and online. The person selected for this position will work closely with faculty in providing technical and instructional support and guidance for development of both existing in-person and new online courses. This person will also be a liaison for faculty through support, troubleshooting, and guidance for our newly adopted LMS (D2L) and related third-party software. 

Ferrum College is looking for a candidate who has:

  • Experience supporting and creating an online learning environment and the ability to provide primary support to all Ferrum College community members;
  • Exceptional customer service skills and knowledge of best practices in an academic/online education environment;
  • Experience with instructional design and classroom technology integration preferably in a higher education environment;
  • Outstanding oral and written communication practices;
  • Previous experience in LMS administration in a distributed computing environment; using Desire2Learn, Blackboard, Moodle, or Angel preferred;
  • The ability to assist students, faculty and administrators with use of LMS including reporting, process-improvement suggestions, and troubleshooting tips;
  • The ability to participate in the research, testing, and validation of LMS fixes, updates, and upgrades;
  • The oversight to ensure upgrades and revisions to the LMS occur timely and with a minimum of disruption for users; and
  • The ability to multi-task several projects simultaneously and meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of current trends in online learning, how to establish online degree programs, and facilitate the recruitment of students to enroll in online programs.
  • Knowledge of LMS administrative control panel and ability to use it to configure all core functionality of the college's LMS, including role definition and user management, course management, security and authentication, institutional and branding settings, and enabling / disabling global features, components and application settings as needed.
  • Able to use, implement, and support new technologies and platforms for both large and small scale changes in the LMS environment.
  • Experience supporting various groups by performing Learning Management Systems administration and LMS helpdesk coordination.

 

Required Qualifications include Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Instructional Design and Technology, Education or related field required; ability to work with minimum supervision and maintain current LMS system. Experience with the administration of online classes and an LMS system required; must have experience administering Desire2Learn Environment. Basic skills in programming and SQL queries required. Ability to adapt to changes and consistently meet deadlines required. Experience working through an LMS system migration a plus. Five years' experience working in an educational setting preferred. Must be proficient in HTML, Microsoft Office products and the use of different web browsers and operating systems. Database experience a plus. Must have the ability to learn new software and hardware requirements and to handle many projects simultaneously. Must be willing to work in a team environment to serve the needs of students and program areas. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Food Court Team Members

Seasonal Production Technicians

Ferrum College has several immediate openings for dependable and conscientious Food Court Team Members to assist in the daily operations of our newest Food Court venue by providing excellent customer service, assisting with food preparation, clean-up, stocking, and all functions necessary for successful operation of a food venue. 

These are seasonal positions, averaging 19 hours or less per week, with varying work schedules including occasional holidays and weekends; and offering no paid benefits. Food service experience is preferred but will consider training candidates who have strong work ethic and are willing to learn. Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds frequently. The successful candidates be very reliable and will have good basic math skills, the knowledge and ability to operate a cash register and calculator, and basic computer skills. These positions require excellent customer service and communication skills; honesty, good work ethic, professional attitude and the ability to be a team player.
