Food Production Technician - Cook

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Food Production Technician – Cook to perform a variety of tasks including preparing/cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals and comply with menu requirements. Knife skills, Serv-Safe certified and cooking experience in a high volume environment.  This is a fast paced position.   Successful candidate must be able to assume other positions, within Dining Services, quickly when needed.  Maintain all equipment in the kitchen in a clean, healthy operational condition. 

This is a full time, evening shift, 40 hours per week position. Individual must be willing to work every other weekend.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and must be able to lift 10-25 pounds frequently and 25-50 pounds occasionally.

On-Call Driver

Ferrum College is accepting applications for an On-call Driver to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College.  Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping.  This position requires some overnight travel.  A background check is required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current Virginia driver’s license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks.  Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically.   Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.

Residence Hall Educator

Ferrum College is searching for one Residence Hall Educator. The anticipated applicant should be enthusiastic, professional, a self-starter, will be live-in professional staff member, and will be responsible for a residential area that houses approximately 400-600 students.  The RHE will supervise around 8-14 undergraduate student staff members.  Applicants should be mature, outgoing, enthusiastic, organized, and expect to be an active participant in campus life.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, community development, retention, RA recruitment, programming, education, advising, supervision of student staff, conflict mediation and resolution, policy enforcement, review of judicial cases, on call duties, and crisis intervention and response. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree and prior graduate and/or professional residence life experience (2-3 years).  Qualified candidates should possess, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree, previous residence life experience, and a desire to work with college students.  This is a 12-month position.

Start date will be on or near June 10, 2016. Compensation includes a competitive salary plus benefits, an on-campus one-bedroom furnished apartment, and full meal plan when students are in session.

Retail Operations

Papa John’s Food Production Technician

Ferrum College is seeking an outgoing, reliable, and responsible Papa John’s Food Production Technician. Supervisory experience and excellent customer service skills are required. Responsibilities include, serving customers, and operation of and closing out cash register.

This is a full time, 12-month position, working 40 hours per week. Weekend work and some overtime are required. Supervisory skills, and current Safe Serve Certification preferred.  Must be able to stand for long periods of time; must have full range of body motions; and must be able to occasionally lift & carry up to 50 pounds.

Police Officer

Ferrum College is currently seeking to fill the position of Police Officer. Candidates must be able to perform law enforcement and security functions within the College Police Department. Duties, responsibilities, and requisite skills include but are not limited to: providing vehicle, bicycle or foot patrol of the campus; responding to calls for service and on-view suspicious activities; resolving complaints; investigating criminal and traffic incidents; providing first responder aid when required; and other duties as assigned. The Ferrum College Police Department subscribes to a robust community-oriented policing philosophy in order to fulfill its mission.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

To be considered as a candidate, applicants must meet the following qualifications at the time of application:

• Must currently be certified as a police officer in the commonwealth of Virginia by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), or eligible for recertification under DCJS guidelines with 40 hours of Mandatory In-Service Retraining;

• Possess law enforcement experience;

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent;

• Be at least 21 years of age;

• Have U.S. citizenship;

• Have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license;

• No driving under the influence (DUI) convictions.

• No felony convictions or convictions of misdemeanors involving crimes of moral turpitude or gross misconduct;

• Successfully pass an background investigation;

• Successfully complete a mandated Field Training Program administered by the department; and

• Must live within 45 miles of the Ferrum campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of law enforcement experience is preferred; 10 or more years is strongly desited;
  • Certified Crime Prevention Specialist
  • Presentation experience
  • Leadership experience; and
  • Experience in community-oriented policing.

Admissions Telecounselor

(16 Hours/Week: M-TH 5pm-9pm On Campus)

Ferrum College is seeking an Admissions Telecounselor to contact prospective students and to educate them about the application and enrollment process, scholarship opportunities and other aspects of Ferrum College.  This is a 12 month seasonal evening position, with potential for limited Saturday work, and the pay rate is $10.00 per hour.  The candidate will respect the College in a professional manner in all telecounseling and admissions activities and will accurately reflect and portray the mission of the College. 

The position reports to the Coordinator of Telecounseling and the Associate Dean of Admissions.  Responsibilities include effectively communicating with prospective students about scholarship opportunities at Ferrum College, providing information about the college, accurately gathering and recording demographic and academic information from prospective students, conducting follow-up and applicant calls, and performing other telecounseling tasks as assigned.
