Seasonal Museum Interpreter

Ferrum College is in search of a person to serve as a costumed interpreter for its historic farm museum, exhibiting living history on an 1800 Blue Ridge farmstead.  Responsibilities include providing costumed interpretation to museum visitors and assisting with the upkeep of museum gardens, livestock, and facilities.

Hands-on experience in old-time crafts or agriculture preferred.  Good communication skills, outgoing personality, and interest in Blue Ridge history are required.  This is a seasonal position.  Some weekend work is required.

Residence Hall Educator

Ferrum College is seeking to hire a Residence Hall Educator (RHE).  This enthusiastic professional self-starter will be live-in professional staff and will be responsible for a residential area that houses approximately 400-600 students.  The RHE will supervise 8-14 undergraduate student staff members.  The successful candidate will be mature, outgoing, enthusiastic, organized and will expect to be an active participant in campus life. Start date will be on or near July 20, 2015. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, community development, retention, Residence Assistant (RA) recruitment, programming, education, advising, supervision of student staff, conflict mediation and resolution, policy enforcement, review of judicial cases, on-call duties, and crisis intervention and response.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree and prior graduate and/or professional residence life experience (2 – 3 years).  Qualified candidates should possess, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree, previous residence life experience, and a desire to work with college students.  This is a 12-month position.

For this position we offer an excellent compensation and benefits package.  Compensation includes a competitive salary plus a rent-free furnished 1-bedroom on-campus apartment and a full meal plan when students are in session.  Benefits include medical, dental, life, paid leave, STD/LTD insurances, and a 403(b) retirement plan.

Seasonal Admissions Telecounselor

(16 Hours/Week: M-TH 5pm-9pm On Campus)

Ferrum College is seeking a Seasonal Admissions Telecounselor to contact prospective students and to educate them about the application and enrollment process, scholarship opportunities and other aspects of Ferrum College. This is a 12 month evening position, with potential for limited Saturday work, and the pay rate is $10.00 per hour. The candidate will respect the College in a professional manner in all telecounseling and admissions activities and will accurately reflect and portray the mission of the College.

The position reports to the Coordinator of Telecounseling and the Associate Dean of Admissions. Responsibilities include effectively communicating with prospective students about scholarship opportunities at Ferrum College, providing information about the college, accurately gathering and recording demographic and academic information from prospective students, conducting follow-up and applicant calls, and performing other telecounseling tasks as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for this position are a High School Diploma, a professional telephone voice, and a strong work ethic. Retail Operations Team Members

Seasonal Production Technicians

Ferrum College has several immediate openings for dependable and conscientious Retail Operations Team Members to assist in the daily operations of our retail venues by providing excellent customer service, assisting with food preparation, clean-up, stocking, and all functions necessary for successful operation of a food venue.

These are seasonal positions, averaging 19 hours or less per week, with varying work schedules including  holidays and weekends; offering no paid benefits.  Food service experience is preferred but will consider training candidates who have strong work ethic and are willing to learn.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.  The successful candidates be very reliable and will have good basic math skills, the knowledge and ability to operate a cash register and calculator, and basic computer skills.  These positions require excellent customer service and communication skills; honesty, good work ethic, professional attitude and the ability to be a team player.
