HVAC/R Lead Mechanic &

HVAC/R Mechanic

Ferrum College is accepting applications for a full-time, 40-hour/week HVAC/Refrigeration Lead Mechanic and a full-time, 40-hour/week HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic to maintain, repair, fabricate and/or install heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment for the facility which includes approximately 50 structures and numerous sports and related facilities.

Our HVAC/R Mechanics ensure high pressure, high temperature boilers and domestic water heaters are maintained in working order at all times. They are responsible for the setup and operation of campus wide energy management systems; heating and air systems throughout the facility including the refrigerated equipment located in Dining Services; preventive maintenance of the heating and air conditioning systems; working directly with contractors and vendors in major repairs or installation of new equipment; assisting in maintaining documentation including operational, repair, and preventive maintenance records, OEM manuals and drawings related to this trade. Must support other craft persons as required.

The Lead HVAC/R Mechanic will also direct and train lower level mechanics and trades people in all aspects of the task required to maintain proper operation and repairs of campus wide HVAC/R systems.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Position requires full range of body motion including reaching, stooping, kneeling, and climbing, working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Indoor work is primarily in mechanical spaces that are hot, cramped, and noisy. Work may be performed at ground level, on ladders, and scaffolding, and on roofs.

Qualifications: Must have a minimum of 5 years similar experience and EPA refrigerant certification. Certification in HVAC/R preferred.

Reference and Instruction Librarian

Ferrum College has an opening for a reference and instruction librarian to perform public service duties, including: reference, circulation, and information literacy instruction. This position is 20 hours/week for 15 weeks each semester. The successful candidate can choose one of the following work schedules: Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM-2:00 PM or Tuesday through Friday 10:00 AM-2:00 PM and Saturday 11:30 AM-3:30 PM.

The preferred candidate will have a MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution (those in final stages of a degree program will be considered), excellent communication and technology skills, and public service and instruction experience.

Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Position will start in January 2015. Hourly wage is $18 an hour. No benefits are included with this position.
