Admissions Telecounselor

(16 Hours/Week: M-TH 5pm-9pm On Campus)

 Ferrum College is seeking an Admissions Telecounselor to contact prospective students and to educate them about scholarship opportunities and other aspects of Ferrum College.  This is a 12 month seasonal evening position, with potential for limited Saturday work, and the pay rate is $10.00 per hour.  The candidate will respect the College in a professional manner in all telecounseling and admissions activities and will accurately reflect and portray the mission of the College.

The position reports to the Coordinator of Telecounseling.  Responsibilities include effectively communicating with prospective students about scholarship opportunities at Ferrum College, providing information about the college, accurately gathering and recording demographic and academic information from prospective students, conducting follow-up calls, and performing other telecounseling tasks as assigned.

Assistant Athletic Trainer

 Ferrum College, an NCAA Division-III member institution and member of the USA South Athletic Conference, is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full time, 12 month position with full benefits. This position will assist in providing care for Ferrum’s 20 varsity intercollegiate and three club sports. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing assistance to the Head Athletic Trainer in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses to over 500 student-athletes. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: providing daily health care of student-athletes, maintaining appropriate athletic training room operations, recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for treatment given, daily practice/competition coverage and some travel responsibilities of assigned sports (sport assignments to be determined), assisting with inventory maintenance and budget, and other miscellaneous job-related duties as deemed necessary by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; NATABOC certification; eligible for State of Virginia Athletic Training Licensure; current Professional Rescuer CPR/AED & First Aid certification; basic computer and Microsoft Office skills. Candidates should be well-organized and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.  Effective verbal and written communications skills are essential.  

Preferred qualifications: Master’s Degree; experience working in a coeducational collegiate environment; two or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer; experience with SIMS computer system; Additional certifications are desirable (First AID/CPR instructor, reputable strength and conditioning certification, Graston technique, FMS, etc.).

Seasonal Receptionist/Weekend Assistant

The Blue Ridge Institute & Museum of Ferrum College is seeking a Receptionist/Weekend Assistant to manage the front desk and public spaces of the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum.  The Receptionist/Weekend Assistant will provide regional tourism information to museum visitors, maintain museum store merchandise and tourism materials.  The Receptionist/Weekend Assistant will assist with clerical and office projects; as well as, with activities of Ferrum College’s Institutional Advancement Division as needed. 

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Availability to work primarily Saturdays and Sundays, or other days as needed;
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds;
  • High school diploma.

 

Preferred qualifications include the ability to run a cash register and prior retail sales experience.

Housekeeper

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a Housekeeper. Individual to perform general housekeeping duties including; general cleaning services using specialized chemicals and equipment, such as floor buffers, floor burnishers and carpet extractors, which includes; stripping wax floors, putting wax on floors, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, working in a variety of environments. This is a full time, 40 hour week flexible schedule position. Occasional weekend and overtime work required. Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Good driving record required.

Retail Operations Team Members

Seasonal Production Technicians

Ferrum College has several immediate openings for dependable and conscientious Retail Operations Team Members to assist in the daily operations of our retail venues by providing excellent customer service, assisting with food preparation, clean-up, stocking, and all functions necessary for successful operation of a food venue.

These are seasonal positions, averaging 19 hours or less per week, with varying work schedules including  holidays and weekends; offering no paid benefits.  Food service experience is preferred but will consider training candidates who have strong work ethic and are willing to learn.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.  The successful candidates be very reliable and will have good basic math skills, the knowledge and ability to operate a cash register and calculator, and basic computer skills.  These positions require excellent customer service and communication skills; honesty, good work ethic, professional attitude and the ability to be a team player.

Subway Assistant Manager

Ferrum College is seeking an outgoing, reliable, and responsible person to serve as Subway Assistant Manager.  This position requires a professional attitude and the ability to promote and work in a team environment.  Responsibilities include opening/closing the store, supervising student employees, assisting in schedule preparation, preparing food, ensuring excellent customer service, operating cash register and making deposits, assisting with product ordering, inventory control and required daily reporting.

This is a full-time, 12-month position, working 40 hours per week.  Weekend work and some overtime are required.   Management experience is preferred.  The ideal candidate must have basic math and computer skills, be familiar with Microsoft Office Software, be able to multi-task, and have excellent communication skills.
