General Utility Technician

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious General Utility Technician to work in the dish room and adhere to sanitation standards in the dining room and areas of the kitchen. 

This 10-month position is full time and a 40-hour week position. This position has a varying schedule and may require occasional holidays and possibly some overtime.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and must be able to lift at least 50 pounds frequently. Background check required.

Food Production Technician - Cook

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Food Production Technician – Cook to perform a variety of tasks including preparing/cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals and comply with menu requirements. Knife skills, Serv-Safe certified and cooking experience in a high volume environment.  This is a fast paced position.   Successful candidate must be able to assume other positions, within Dining Services, quickly when needed.  Maintain all equipment in the kitchen in a clean, healthy operational condition. 

This is a 10 month, full time, evening shift, 40 hours per week position. Individual must be willing to work every other weekend.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and must be able to lift 10-25 pounds frequently and 25-50 pounds occasionally.  Background check required.

Salad Prep/Baker

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a qualified Salad Prep/Baker.   Must be able to bake cakes from scratch, pies, cookies, brownies, and other sweet goods in large quantities on a daily basis.  Experience in specialty desserts and/or breads is a plus. 

Must be familiar with sanitation requirements, safety and health regulations. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift/carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and 10-25 pounds frequently and be able to stoop, bend and squat.  Must have excellent customer service skills. 

This is a 10 month, full time, 40-hour week position which will require some weekend and occasional overtime work. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.  Background check required.

Dining Services - Full time

Food Production Technician-Server

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Food Production Technician-Server to perform a variety of tasks including preparing/cooking breakfast, brunch, and dinner meals and comply with menu requirements. Work closely with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, supervisors, kitchen staff, and student body to ensure customer satisfaction.  Assist Purchasing Manager in organization of food storage areas.  Maintain all equipment in the kitchen to ensure a clean and healthy operational condition.

Dining Services - Seasonal

Seasonal General Utility Technician

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Seasonal General Utility Technician to work in the dish room and to sanitize the dining room and areas of the kitchen. 

The person filling this position will typically work 32 hours per week while classes are in session (29 weeks a year) and may require some scheduling flexibility. The position does not provide benefits.

Admissions Counselor

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the full-time position of Admissions Counselor to become part of a successful recruitment team. Regional travel and extensive evening telephone follow-up with student applicants are required.  This position reports to the Associate Dean of Admissions and Dean of Admissions.

Athletics Insurance Claims Coordinator

Ferrum College is currently seeking an individual for an Athletic Insurance Claims Coordinator. This is a seasonal position (no benefits) requiring approximately 10 hours per week during the school year. Primary responsibilities include record keeping for insurance claims, communicating effectively between insurance companies, athletic training staff, and policy owners.

Minimum qualifications: good record keeping/organization, good communication skills, experience with insurance companies is preferred, and experience with Microsoft Word is preferred.

Head Athletic Trainer

Ferrum College is seeking applications for the position of Head Athletic Trainer. This is a full time, 12 month position. Ferrum College sponsors 14 intercollegiate athletics programs, which includes over 400 student-athletes.

The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing leadership to the sports medicine program at Ferrum, to include the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral and rehabilitation of injuries/illnesses to student-athletes. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: assisting in the daily health care of student-athletes and the sports medicine facility operation; recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for treatment given; daily practice coverage and travel responsibilities of assigned sport(s); assisting in inventory and budget, and other miscellaneous job related duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Athletics.

The Head Athletic Trainer currently supervises a professional staff of four, including three Assistant Athletic Trainers and one Insurance Coordinator. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, BOC certification, Virginia Licensure, and CPR/AED certification. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree, Strength and Conditioning certification (i.e. CSCS, CES, PES, etc.), other pertinent certifications (i.e. ART, Graston Technique, etc.) membership in NATA, experience working in a coeducational collegiate environment with a minimum of two years experience as a certified athletic trainer. The successful candidate should be well-organized and capable of working independently, and show the ability to effectively lead a staff of professionals and student trainers.  Effective verbal communications skills are essential.

On-Call Driver

Ferrum College is accepting applications for an On-call Driver to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College.  Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping.  This position requires some overnight travel.  A background check is required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current Virginia driver’s license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks.  Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically.   Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.

Papa John’s Food Production Technician

Ferrum College is seeking an outgoing, reliable, and responsible Papa John’s Food Production Technician. Supervisory experience and excellent customer service skills are required. Responsibilities include, serving customers, and operation of and closing out cash register.

This is a full time, 12-month position, working 40 hours per week. Weekend work and some overtime are required. Supervisory skills, and current Safe Serve Certification preferred.  Must be able to stand for long periods of time; must have full range of body motions; and must be able to occasionally lift & carry up to 50 pounds.

Police Officer

Ferrum College is currently seeking to fill the position of Police Officer. Candidates must be able to perform law enforcement and security functions within the College Police Department. Duties, responsibilities, and requisite skills include but are not limited to: providing vehicle, bicycle or foot patrol of the campus; responding to calls for service and on-view suspicious activities; resolving complaints; investigating criminal and traffic incidents; providing first responder aid when required; and other duties as assigned. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

To be considered as a candidate, applicants must meet the following qualifications at the time of application:

• Must currently be certified as a police officer in the commonwealth of Virginia by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), or eligible for recertification under DCJS guidelines with 40 hours of Mandatory In-Service Retraining;

• Possess law enforcement experience;

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent;

• Be at least 21 years of age;

• Have U.S. citizenship;

• Have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license;

• No driving under the influence (DUI) convictions.

• No felony convictions or convictions of misdemeanors involving crimes of moral turpitude or gross misconduct;

• Successfully pass an background investigation;

• Successfully complete a mandated Field Training Program administered by the department; and

• Must live within 45 miles of the Ferrum campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of law enforcement experience is preferred; 10 or more years is strongly desited;
  • Certified Crime Prevention Specialist
  • Presentation experience
  • Leadership experience; and
  • Experience in community-oriented policing.

Admissions Telecounselor

(16 Hours/Week: M-TH 5pm-9pm On Campus)

Ferrum College is seeking an Admissions Telecounselor to contact prospective students and to educate them about the application and enrollment process, scholarship opportunities and other aspects of Ferrum College.  This is a 12 month seasonal evening position, with potential for limited Saturday work, and the pay rate is $10.00 per hour.  The candidate will respect the College in a professional manner in all telecounseling and admissions activities and will accurately reflect and portray the mission of the College. 

The position reports to the Coordinator of Telecounseling and the Associate Dean of Admissions.  Responsibilities include effectively communicating with prospective students about scholarship opportunities at Ferrum College, providing information about the college, accurately gathering and recording demographic and academic information from prospective students, conducting follow-up and applicant calls, and performing other telecounseling tasks as assigned.
