Human Resources Specialist

Ferrum College is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented individual to join our staff as a full-time Human Resources Specialist. The successful candidate will be able to conduct HR dealings with highly confidential information and sensitive situations in a professional and trustworthy manner. The person filling this position must be able to function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.

This specialist will assist with recruitment functions, all on-boarding and exiting processes and payroll preparation, will maintain personnel files in compliance with applicable legal requirements, will fully utilize HR technology to improve departmental efficiency and employee service, will assist with FMLA, Workers Comp, STD/LTD claims and leave/attendance policy administration, will assist with preparing and maintaining employee handbooks, as well as policies and procedures, will support training initiatives, and will monitor the performance evaluation program. The position will also assist with special events planning and execution and supervision of student employees providing switchboard coverage to ensure excellent customer service is given.

Required qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree and three (3) to five (5) years of Human Resources experience, OR seven (7) years of experience in the HR field, OR any similar combination of education and experience;
• Working knowledge of current federal and state employment laws and regulations;
• Broad understanding of major human resources functional areas, including payroll;
• Proficiency in or knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS and content management systems;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability;
• Very strong verbal and written communications skills, and
• Highly developed organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

Admissions Telecounselor

(16 Hours/Week)

Ferrum College is seeking an Admissions Telecounselor to contact prospective students and to educate them about scholarship opportunities and other aspects of Ferrum College. The candidate will represent the College in a professional manner in all telecounseling and admissions activities and will accurately reflect and portray the mission of the College.

The position reports to the Coordinator of Telecounseling and the Associate Dean of Admissions. Responsibilities include effectively communicating with prospective students about scholarship opportunities at Ferrum College, providing information about the college, accurately gathering and recording demographic and academic information from prospective students, conducting follow-up calls, and performing other telecounseling tasks as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for this position are a High School Diploma, a professional telephone voice, and a strong work ethic. Food Production Technician

Ferrum College has immediate openings for a dependable and conscientious Food Production Technician to perform a variety of tasks including preparing/cooking breakfast, brunch, and dinner meals and comply with menu requirements. Work closely with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, supervisors, kitchen staff, and student body to ensure customer satisfaction. Assist Purchasing Manager in organization of food storage areas. Maintain all equipment in the kitchen in a cleanly healthy and operation condition. 

This is a full time, 40-hour week position, varying schedule with occasional holidays and overtime. Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and must be able to lift 10-25 pounds frequently and 25-50 pounds occasionally.

Student Success Tutor

Ferrum College is seeking a seasonal tutor for the Think & Learn Center. This position will provide academic support for freshman students, along with providing guidance in the development of academic skills. 

This seasonal tutor position will begin as soon as possible and will continue through the current academic year. The work schedule for this position will be varied and flexible. The position will be scheduled in 7.5 hour blocks, with a pay rate of $20 per hour. A seasonal tutor may work no more than two 7.5 hour blocks. Additionally, the 7.5 hour blocks of instruction time will be dispersed throughout the week, based on classroom need and availability. This position offers no benefits. 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Special Education with certification and teaching experience in one of these areas: Middle School math, Secondary School math. Preferred qualifications are Master’s Degree with experience in math education.

Food Court Team Members

Seasonal Production Technicians

Ferrum College has several immediate openings for dependable and conscientious Food Court Team Members to assist in the daily operations of our newest Food Court venue by providing excellent customer service, assisting with food preparation, clean-up, stocking, and all functions necessary for successful operation of a food venue. 

These are seasonal positions, averaging 19 hours or less per week, with varying work schedules including occasional holidays and weekends; and offering no paid benefits. Food service experience is preferred but will consider training candidates who have strong work ethic and are willing to learn. Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds frequently. The successful candidates be very reliable and will have good basic math skills, the knowledge and ability to operate a cash register and calculator, and basic computer skills. These positions require excellent customer service and communication skills; honesty, good work ethic, professional attitude and the ability to be a team player.
