Associate Professor of European History;

Dean for the School of Arts and Humanities

Applications are invited for an experienced faculty member in European history to teach upper level classes and historiography and to serve as Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities. The School Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and serves an integral role in academic planning and assessment. 

The ideal candidate will be required to have a Ph.D. in History along with college teaching experience. Prior leadership preferred at the Department Chair level. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate a consultative and collaborative leadership style; knowledge of current research on learning theories, curriculum and instructional design, and assessment; strong commitment to a culture that supports and values undergraduate teaching and learning, with demonstrated success at grant writing and leveraging resources to support faculty preferred.

Assistant Professor of Health and Human Performance

The Health and Human Performance (HHP) program is currently seeking to appoint a faculty in Exercise Science at the assistant professor rank.  Responsibilities include: TEACHING: Courses in exercise physiology, health related fitness, kinesiology as well as other core courses in the HHP curriculum. Advising students and supervising internships. SCHOLARSHIP: Provide evidence of scholarship, publication, and/or presentation activity through appropriate professional venues and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students. SERVICE: Participate in College, School, Program, and disciplinary leadership.

 Qualifications: The successful candidate will be expected to have a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology or related field, with expertise and/or experience in exercise physiology and kinesiology/biomechanics.

Assistant Professor of Dramatic and Theatre Arts/Musical Theatre Generalist

Applications are invited for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Dramatic and Theatre Arts/Musical Theatre beginning August, 2014 to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to teach a variety of courses from the following areas: Appreciation, World Drama, Acting, Directing, Creative Dramatics, Play Production, Voice and Diction, Children’s Theatre, Stagecraft, and Special Topics. Applicants with strengths and graduate credentials to teach Music History or Theory, Voice and Piano are encouraged to apply. Dance experience is a plus. 

Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts, Doctor Fine Arts, or Ph.D. Candidates should have a varied record of directing plays, musicals and musical performance ensembles, three years teaching experience and a strong commitment to the liberal arts classroom.

Assistant Professor of Art

Ferrum College invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Art position. This is a teaching as well as a program coordinator position. Five or more years’ experience teaching in a college-level program, including administrative coordination and leadership experience a plus. 

Coordinator duties include managing the development and logistics of the art program; e.g. course rotations for maximum workload efficiency, scheduling, course and program assessment, staffing plans, etc. The successful candidate will also assist in the continued development and maintenance of the computer graphics lab and will monitor program-wide technology needs, advisor to Kappa Pi Honor Society and coordination of gallery shows. Candidate should be prepared to teach a variety of courses in the art program such as studio courses in Ceramics, Sculpture and 3-D Design as well as core courses such as Art Appreciation and upper-level historical surveys as needed. Other areas might include: Photography, Senior Seminar and Senior Show. 

A Master of Fine Arts, Doctor of Fine Arts, or Ph.D. is required for this position.

Assistant Professor of Biology

The Ferrum College School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is seeking applicants for a tenure-track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Biology.   To be considered, applicants must hold a terminal degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline of biology and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in biology with expertise in human biology and demonstrated excellence in both teaching and collaborative research in human health and biology. Experience in working with cadaver dissection as a part of instruction will also strengthen the applications. Applications will be considered on a continuing basis and continue until the position is filled. Assistant Professor of Religion

Ferrum College invites application for a non-tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in August, 2014. Area of specialization open, but preference will be given to Theology or World Religions. Candidates should also be capable of teaching introductory biblical course for the college’s general education requirements. 

A Ph.D. is required for this position; teaching experience preferred. Candidates who are Methodist and familiar with Methodist theology are preferred.

Instructor of Mathematics

The Ferrum College School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is seeking applicants for a faculty position of Instructor of Mathematics. To be considered, applicants must hold a Master’s degree or higher in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics or other applied mathematics field with at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline of mathematics and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in both teaching and collaborative research in applied mathematics and/or mathematics education. In addition to those listed above, applicants should provide three letters of recommendation.
