Teacher Education – Tenure-Track

Ferrum College a rural, private liberal arts institution affiliated with the Methodist
Church invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor
in Teacher Education. Candidates should have a strong emphasis in pedagogy and curriculum
for students on multiple levels, and will contribute to the preparation of teachers
in both Elementary Education and Secondary Education. This is a full time position
with a nine-month academic appointment in the School of Social Sciences and Professional
Studies. The position will begin August 2015.
Required qualifications include:
An earned doctorate in the Education field with a strong emphasis in curriculum development
and educational pedagogy is required. Excellent communication skills, passion for
teaching and training of preservice teachers, dedication to scholarship and willingness
to engage in community service, as well as a demonstrated ability to develop a record
of scholarship in one’s area of expertise.
The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
O Assist with program development
O Teach and advise undergraduate students;
O Contribute leadership and programmatic oversight in Teacher Education for both
and secondary levels
O Collaborate with area agencies and/or schools;
O Supervise field-based experiences for both elementary and secondary levels;
O Provide service to the college, the community and professional organizations;
Candidates will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Collaborative/Consultative Teacher Education experience at the college level;
- Minimum of 3 years of successful PK-12 experience teaching in public school settings;
- Demonstrated success in teaching methodology courses at the college level;
- Expertise in educational pedagogy with emphasis at both the middle and secondary level
– with experience in math and science pedagogy;
- Ability to teach with and about 21st-century literacies, including digital literacies
and multimodal literacies;
- Licensure in ESL a plus;
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with collegiate teaching.
