FACULTY POSITIONS 

Faculty appointments begin on August 15, 2014, except where noted otherwise. Adjunct Instructors - English

Ferrum College invites applications for English adjunct instructors for the 2014 fall semester.  Positions include the following:

  • Instructor for freshman composition and research classes.  Applicants must have earned at least a Master’s degree in English.
  • Instructors to teach News Writing and Editing and advise the student newspaper.  Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or higher in English, Communication or Journalism with at least 18 graduate hours of graduate work in English.

Adjunct Instructor - Web/Graphic Design

Ferrum College invites applications for adjunct instructor for Web/Graphic Design for the fall semester.  Web Design is a course that introduces the basics of HTML and website design through Adobe Dreamweaver and other appropriate media.  Graphic Design is a foundation course that introduces the basics of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Applicants should hold a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 hours of digital Art and must have strong emphasis in Graphic Design/Web Design at the graduate level.  Previous college teaching experience is required.

Adjunct Instructor - Theatre Arts

Ferrum College invites applications for adjunct instructor in speech and theatre for the 2014 fall semester to teach undergraduate courses, based on qualifications, in speech, voice and diction, and other theatre courses.  The ideal candidate will have strengths and graduate credentials in both areas.

Applicants must hold a Master of Arts.  Teaching experience at the college level is preferred; secondary teaching will be considered.  A strong commitment to the liberal arts classroom is expected.

Assistant Professor of Biology

(Molecular Biology, Anatomy, Physiology)

The School of Natural Science and Mathematics at Ferrum College invites applications for two positions (one tenure track and one non-tenure track) of Assistant Professor of Biology (Molecular Biology and Anatomy and Physiology). These positions are scheduled to start in August 2014. To be considered, applicants must hold a terminal degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline of biology and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education. The two positions will provide instructional support for biology courses including general biology, human anatomy and physiology, human nutrition, medical terminology, introductory cell and molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology, immunology, and biotechnology. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in biology with expertise in human biology and demonstrated excellence in both teaching and collaborative research in human health and biology. Experience in working with cadaver dissection as a part of instruction will also strengthen the application. The successful candidate for the tenure track position will develop a biomedical, cellular, or molecular-based undergraduate research program that will engage students with human health interests. Instructor of Mathematics

The Ferrum College School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is seeking applicants for a faculty position of Instructor of Mathematics. To be considered, applicants must hold a Master’s degree or higher in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics or other applied mathematics field with at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline of mathematics and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in both teaching and collaborative research in applied mathematics and/or mathematics education. In addition to those listed above, applicants should provide three letters of recommendation. Applications will be considered on a continuing basis, but the review process will begin December 2, 2013 and continue until the position is filled.
