Visiting Instructor in Media & Communication

Ferrum College seeks applicants for a Visiting Media and Communication/Speech Communication Instructor. Applications are invited for a part-time generalist in speech and media communication beginning August 15, 2016 to teach undergraduate courses in speech and other courses in media & mass communication, based on qualifications.  The ideal candidate will have experience and graduate credentials in both areas.  This position is designed for a doctoral candidate who has completed all coursework and their comprehensive examinations, and who is working on their dissertation.  Teaching load is two COM courses a semester plus help with the Radio and Video Practicum courses.

Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree and at least 18 graduate credit-hours in mass communication and speaking is required.  At least one year teaching experience at the college level is preferred, with secondary teaching considered.  A strong commitment to the liberal arts classroom is expected.

Instructor of Biology

Ferrum College is seeking applications for a two-year non-tenure term position as Instructor of Biology. This position is scheduled to begin in August, 2016.  The successful applicant will teach Introductory Biology (both majors and non-majors courses) in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.  There may also be opportunities to teach additional courses in an area of expertise (e.g. nutrition, microbiology, ecology).

Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree including at least 18 graduate hours in Biology, PhD and undergraduate teaching experience preferred.

Information Literacy & Emerging Technologies Librarian (10 month, non-tenure track position)

Ferrum College has an opening for an enthusiastic and visionary Information Literacy & Emerging Technologies Librarian to provide learner-centered, research instruction to undergraduate students. In consultation with the Library Director, this position will provide leadership for the Stanley Library Information Literacy Program. Responsible for facilitating introductory, problem-based, and advanced information literacy sessions for courses using active learning techniques. The successful candidate will develop and maintain assessment measures for the information literacy program. This position will also provide public service support in the form of circulation and reference desk coverage and supervision, and is responsible for implementing and overseeing emerging instructional technologies for Stanley Library.  Position to begin in mid-August, 2016.

Minimum qualifications include: an MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and instruction experience. Preferred qualifications for the position include: a minimum of two years’ experience working in an academic library setting, a minimum of two years’ instruction experience, knowledge of learning theories, and excellent technology skills in instructional design.
