Undergraduate researchers are always welcome in the lab - if you are interested in renewable energy, plant ecology, entomology, or soils (or anything else for that matter) stop by and introduce yourself!

Courses taught:

  • Various Biology and Environmental Science courses.

Publications:

  • GN Stevens and RJ Stuart. In press. The ecological complexities of biological control: trophic cascades, spatial heterogeneity, and behavioral ecology. Journal of Nematology

  • GN Stevens, EE Lewis and KO Spence. Book chapter, In press. Root feeders in heterogeneous systems: foraging responses and trophic interactions. Pages 178 - 198 in "Root feeders: An ecosystem perspective." CABI publishers, 219 pages

  • GN Stevens, EE Lewis, and HK Kaya. 2008. Potential multitrophic influences of soil heterogeneity: roots, insect root herbivores, and entomopathogenic nematodes. Biopesticides International 3:81-95

  • GN Stevens, DR Pierson, K Nguyen, and RH Jones. 2007. The influence of root herbivores on plants varies with patch quality and plant community composition. Plant and Soil 296:235-246.

Research:

  • My research integrates my interests in the fields of restoration ecology, sustainable energy, and soil ecology.

Projects:

  • The majority of my current work is focused on the restoration of native grasses, such as switchgrass and other native prairie grasses, within Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay region. These grasses are closely tied to societal interests in biomass energy, water quality, and restoration of soil fertility.
