Admissions Telecounseling Manager

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the full-time position of Admissions Telecounseling Manager to become part of a successful recruitment team. The position will manage and supervise the evening calling center to achieve desired contact, pre-award, application, and enrollment goals related to the overall recruitment goals of the College.  The Telecounseling Manager will monitor Admissions Office Social Media accounts.

This position requires significant evening hours and reports to the Coordinator of Prospect Development and Communications and the Dean of Admissions.

Dining Services Technician - Cook 10-month position

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Dining Services Technician – Cook to perform a variety of tasks including preparing/cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals and comply with menu requirements. Knife skills, Serv-Safe certified and cooking experience in a high volume environment.  This is a fast paced position.   Successful candidate must be able to assume other positions, within Dining Services, quickly when needed.  Maintain all equipment in the kitchen in a clean, healthy operational condition.

This is a 10 month, full time, evening shift, 40 hours per week position. Individual must be willing to work every other weekend.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and must be able to lift 10-25 pounds frequently and 25-50 pounds occasionally.

Ferrum Fund Officer

The Office of Development at Ferrum College seeks applications for the Ferrum Fund Officer.  This is a full-time, exempt-staff position.

The Ferrum Fund Officer will be an integral member of the Development team, which includes annual fund, major and planning giving, and advancement services.  The Ferrum Fund Officer will work with a portfolio of leadership giving prospects with the goal of increasing membership in the Arthur Society, Ferrum’s leadership giving society.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, managing and continually evaluating a portfolio of prospects; maintaining a regular travel schedule to engage prospects; securing annual leadership gifts to support the priorities of the Ferrum Fund; overseeing the phonathon program; assisting with stewardship programs; and participating in stewardship, alumni, and development events.

Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications.

Bachelor’s degree required.  Two years of fundraising experience is preferred, particularly in institutions of higher education.  Excellent, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are needed.  The Ferrum Fund Officer will be highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and effectively able to manage several projects simultaneously.  Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

On Call Driver

Ferrum College is accepting applications for an On-call Driver to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College.  Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping.  This position requires some overnight travel.  A background check is required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current Virginia driver’s license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks.  Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically.   Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.

Executive Director of Academic Support Services

Ferrum College invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of Academic Support Services, to begin not later than January 2018.

The Executive Director of Academic Support Services will oversee and further develop the Academic Support Services, programming and initiatives at Ferrum College.  The campus-wide support services include:

  • The Academic Resources Center (ARC) is a unique student-focused center provides a variety of academic resources including: peer tutoring sessions, one-on-one tutoring with an academic counselor, and peer-led and facilitated study groups.
  • The Ask ME First Center is committed to providing first generation college students, those whose parents never enrolled in postsecondary education, with resources that contribute to their academic and personal success.
  • Academic Accessibility Services is at no additional cost for students with documented disabilities. Services offered are in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • The PACE (Pathways: Advising, Connection, Exploration) Office is responsible for easing the transition to Ferrum College for both freshman and new transfer students by coordinating the scheduling process and PAWS sessions.  PACE also assists students throughout their freshman and sophomore years as they enter into a major course of study.
  • The Think and Learn Center provides individualized tutoring and academic support for freshman students enrolled in the Learning Community.

Reporting directly to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Executive Director will have opportunities to expand resources for our highly diverse student body and partner with campus offices to identify and implement new ways to support specific student populations (e.g., international, first generation, part-time, commuters, transfers, veterans, and NCAA Div. III student-athletes).  We seek a visionary leader who is prepared to draw on Ferrum’s Strategic Plan to build on existing strengths and join a campus-wide effort to support our students as they prepare for the future.

The Executive Director of Academic Support Services will possess significant knowledge and experience in areas related to academic engagement, resources, and support.  The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in shaping an academic advising program and assist in strengthening retention rates.  Responsible for shaping a vision and strategy for the future of the ARC and all of the campus-wide support services, the Executive Director will contribute to initiatives and lead a dedicated team of professionals.  We seek a campus leader and colleague who embraces our College’s mission and who shares our commitment to academic excellence and the education of the whole person.

Qualifications and Application

The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree in a liberal arts-related field with five years of related experience to include supervising an academic resources center or similar university program.  Doctoral degree preferred.  The qualified candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student success, bring a wide range of experience in teambuilding and staff supervision, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Help Desk Manager

Ferrum College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Help Desk Manager.

The successful candidate will provide oversight of the Ferrum College Help Desk and the student employees. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, hiring training, supervising and evaluating all Help Desk personnel.  Will ensure the professional collection, recording and resolution where applicable, of technology issues affecting students, faculty and staff at Ferrum College.  Will provide support and inventory control for the cable television converters and cable modems for users. Provide written/oral reports as requested.

Must be able to work closely with students, faculty and staff and be a team player exhibiting organizational skills with keen attention to details. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred. Prior supervisory experience preferred.   A+ or other hardware/software certification and IT management experience is preferred.  Good familiarity of Microsoft Office Suite.

Subway - Shift Supervisor

Ferrum College is seeking an outgoing, reliable, and responsible person to serve as Subway Assistant Manager. This position requires a professional attitude and the ability to promote and work in a team environment. Responsibilities include opening/closing the store, supervising student employees, assisting in schedule preparation, preparing food, ensuring excellent customer service, operating cash register and making deposits, assisting with product ordering, inventory control and required daily reporting.

This is a full-time, 12-month position, working 40 hours per week. Weekend work and some overtime are required.   Management experience is preferred. The ideal candidate must have basic math and computer skills, be familiar with Microsoft Office Software, be able to multi-task, and have excellent communication skills.

Groundskeeper - Seasonal

Ferrum College has an open position for a Seasonal Groundskeeper.  The individual will perform general grounds work, including mowing lawns with riding and push mowers, using trimmers, cleaning walkways, and assisting with snow removal.

This is a seasonal position with no benefits.  The person filling this position will work approximately 20 to 30 hours per week.  Occasional weekend work is required.  Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis.  Valid driver’s license required.

Farm Worker
10 hours per week

Ferrum College is seeking an interested individual to support animal and plant science operations at the Titmus Agricultural Center (TAC) – our campus farm.  The position responsibilities involve routine animal and plant care and facility upkeep and repair, primarily on weekends. The person in this position will work with Ferrum College work study students under the supervision of Agricultural Sciences faculty.

Requires high school graduation and some prior practical experience as a farm worker. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field would be an advantage.  Must be self-motivated, disciplined, and well-organized. Applicant should have the ability to work well with a variety of people and be able to interact effectively with student workers.  A valid driver’s license and good driving record will be needed.

This position is a non-benefits eligible position and is considered to be an ongoing/recurring seasonal status.

Retail Operations Seasonal Team Members

Ferrum College has several immediate openings for dependable and conscientious Retail Operations Team Members to assist in the daily operations of our retail venues by providing excellent customer service, assisting with food preparation, clean-up, stocking, and all functions necessary for successful operation of a food venue.

These are seasonal positions, averaging 19 hours or less per week, with varying work schedules including  holidays and weekends; offering no paid benefits.  Food service experience is preferred but will consider training candidates who have strong work ethic and are willing to learn.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.  The successful candidates be very reliable and will have good basic math skills, the knowledge and ability to operate a cash register and calculator, and basic computer skills.  These positions require excellent customer service and communication skills; honesty, good work ethic, professional attitude and the ability to be a team player.

Housekeeper

We are looking for reliable, conscientious individuals to perform general housekeeping duties in residential halls, office/classroom buildings, other buildings, and occasionally outside.  This involves cleaning using specialized chemicals and equipment, including buffers and carpet cleaning equipment occasionally.
