Dining Services Shift Supervisor

Ferrum College is seeking an outgoing, reliable, and responsible person to supervise the Dining Services and student employee staff in the daily operations and food production for the dining room. This position requires a professional attitude and the ability to promote and work in a team environment. Responsibilities include ensuring timely preparation and presentation of food items, ability to operate cash register, assist in training all employees on dining tasks and directives, ensuring excellent customer service.

This is a full-time, 12-month position, working 40 hours per week. Weekend work and some overtime are required.   Management experience is preferred. The ideal candidate must have basic math and computer skills, be familiar with Microsoft Office Software, be able to multi-task, and have excellent communication skills.

Executive Director of Academic Resources

Ferrum College invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of Academic Resources.  This dynamic leader will oversee and further develop the academic support services, programming, and initiatives at Ferrum College in beautiful Southwest Virginia. The campus-wide support services include:

  • The Academic Resources Center (ARC) provides a variety of academic resources including: peer tutoring sessions, one-on-one tutoring with an academic counselor, and peer-led and facilitated study groups.
  • The Ask ME First Center is committed to providing first generation college students with resources that contribute to their academic and personal success.
  • The Office of Academic Accessibility assists students with advocacy and provides support and accommodations for students who seek help and provides appropriate documentation of a disability.
  • The PACE (Pathways: Advising, Connection, Exploration) Office is responsible for easing the transition to Ferrum College for both freshman and new transfer students by coordinating the course registration process for PAWS orientation sessions. PACE also assists students throughout their freshman and sophomore years as they enter into a major course of study.
  • The Think and Learn Center provides individualized professional tutoring and academic support for freshman students enrolled in the Learning Community.
  • The Panther PRIDE Program, an academics and career preparation program for athletics, provides advising, academic support, academic resources, and the development of career focus and skills for student athletes.

The Executive Director of Academic Resources will report to the Provost and serve as a member of the Academic Affairs Council.  This campus leader will have opportunities to expand resources for our highly diverse student body and partner with campus offices to identify and implement new ways to support specific student populations (e.g., international, first generation, part-time, commuters, transfers, veterans, and NCAA Div. III student-athletes). We seek a visionary leader who is prepared to draw on Ferrum’s Strategic Plan, engage with campus leaders to influence policy and procedures, and join a campus-wide effort to support our students in their pursuit of academic excellence.

The Executive Director of Academic Resources will possess significant knowledge and experience in areas related to academic engagement, resources, and support.  The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in shaping academic support programs that aid in strengthening retention rates and strengthening advising across the College.  Responsible for communicating a vision and strategy for all of the campus-wide academic support services, the Executive Director of Academic Resources will contribute to initiatives and lead a dedicated team of professionals.  We seek a campus leader and colleague who embraces the mission of Ferrum College and who shares our commitment to academic excellence and holistic education.
Qualifications and Application
Candidates must possess a minimum of a master’s level degree and five years of related professional experience.  Preferential consideration will be given to those with a doctoral degree in a related field. The qualified candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student academic success, have extensive leadership experience in a higher education setting, have a proven history of resource advocacy, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Dining Services Technician - Cook (10-month position)

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Dining Services Technician – Cook to perform a variety of tasks including preparing/cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals and comply with menu requirements. Knife skills, Serv-Safe certified and cooking experience in a high volume environment.  This is a fast paced position.   Successful candidate must be able to assume other positions, within Dining Services, quickly when needed.  Maintain all equipment in the kitchen in a clean, healthy operational condition.

This is a 10 month, full time, evening shift, 40 hours per week position. Individual must be willing to work every other weekend.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and must be able to lift 10-25 pounds frequently and 25-50 pounds occasionally.

Retail Food Operations Career Opportunities

Management/Supervisory Positions

Responsibilities include opening/closing store, supervising and training student employees, preparing food and beverages, ensuring excellent customer service, cleaning, operating cash register and completing deposits (shift supervisors are not required to complete deposits), assist with product ordering, inventory control and required daily reporting. Serve Safe certification or the ability to acquire certification is required.  Management/Supervisor experience is preferred.

Food Production Technician

Responsibilities include, serving customers, offering excellent customer service, operating cash register, prepping food, general cleaning.  Seasonal (non-benefit eligible) Food Production Technician positions are also available.

Housekeeper

Ferrum College has an immediate opening in our Housekeeping Department.  We are looking for a reliable, conscientious individual to perform general housekeeping duties in residential halls, office/classroom buildings, other buildings, and occasionally outside.  This involves cleaning using specialized chemicals and equipment, including buffers and carpet cleaning equipment occasionally.

Individual will work in a variety of environments, both inside and outside.   Must be able to occasionally lift & carry up to 75 pounds and be capable of a full range of body motions including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking.

This is a full time, 40-hour week position with occasional weekend and overtime work.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule.  Drivers license and good driving record required.  Background check required.

Manager Admissions Telecounseling Team

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the full-time position of Admissions Telecounseling Manager to become part of a successful recruitment team. The position will manage and supervise the evening calling center to achieve desired contact, pre-award, application, and enrollment goals related to the overall recruitment goals of the College.  The Telecounseling Manager will monitor Admissions Office Social Media accounts.

This position requires 40 hours per week (Monday-Thursday) including evening hours and reports to the Coordinator of Prospect Development and Communications and the Dean of Admissions.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent prior work experience.  Managerial experience is highly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree, ability to effectively manage and motivate personnel, knowledge and experience with database management, accuracy and attention to detail; must be flexible and work well with a wide variety of people.

On Call Driver

This position is considered to be an ongoing/recurring seasonal status.

Ferrum College is accepting applications for an On-call Driver to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College.  Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping.  This position requires some overnight travel.  A background check is required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current Virginia driver’s license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks.  Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically.   Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.

Groundskeeper - Seasonal

This position is considered to be an ongoing/recurring seasonal status.

Ferrum College has an open position for a Seasonal Groundskeeper.  The individual will perform general grounds work, including mowing lawns with riding and push mowers, using trimmers, cleaning walkways, and assisting with snow removal.

This is a seasonal position with no benefits.  The person filling this position will work approximately 20 to 30 hours per week.  Occasional weekend work is required.  Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis.  Valid driver’s license required.
