Director of Planned Giving

Ferrum College seeks a skilled fundraising professional with a proven track record of project development, leadership, and motivational skills for the position of Director of Planned Giving

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with development finance and business and will be dedicated to the completion of tasks and goals designed to develop and implement planned giving strategies and procedures.

The Director will report to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.  She/he will provide leadership, direction, and coordination for a comprehensive planned giving program including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of planed gifts, prospects and donors.  She/he will interface with senior administration and with other members of the College, as well as external communities, and will work closely with the Vice President on ongoing departmental planning, supervision of major gift fundraising staff and other members of the Institutional Advancement team.

Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 3 years of experience in sales-type activities, preferably in a college of university setting.  Master’s degree preferred, with 2 or more years solicitation experience in a higher education environment.  Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague Advancement software.

Senior Development Officer

Ferrum College, a private liberal arts institution founded in 1913, seeks a dynamic, energetic fundraiser to serve as its Senior Development Officer.  Under the direction of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.  He/she will lead the appropriate IA staff in all aspects of the gift cycle including donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, closure, stewardship, and reporting.

A bachelor’s degree, 5-7 or more years of successful experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in higher education., ability to travel extensively and work nights/weekends, and exceptional interpersonal skills and communication required.  Preferred qualifications, 10 years advancement experience in a higher education environment/knowledge of fundraising software and applications.  Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague Advancement software.

Police Officer

Ferrum College is currently seeking to fill the position of Police Officer. Candidates must be able to perform law enforcement and security functions within the College Police Department. Duties, responsibilities, and requisite skills include but are not limited to: providing vehicle, bicycle or foot patrol of the campus; responding to calls for service and on-view suspicious activities; resolving complaints; investigating criminal and traffic incidents; providing first responder aid when required; and other duties as assigned. To be considered as a candidate, applicants must meet the following qualifications at the time of application:
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
• Be at least 21 years of age;
• Have U.S. citizenship;
• Have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license;
• No driving under the influence (DUI) convictions.
• No felony convictions or convictions of misdemeanors involving crimes of moral turpitude or gross misconduct;
• Successfully pass an background investigation;
• Successfully complete a mandated Field Training Program administered by the department; and
• Must live within 45 miles of the Ferrum campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must currently be certified as a police officer in the commonwealth of Virginia by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), or eligible for recertification under DCJS guidelines with 40 hours of Mandatory In-Service Retraining;
    • Possess law enforcement experience;
    • Five years of law enforcement experience is preferred; 10 or more years is strongly desired;
    • Certified Crime Prevention Specialist;
    • Presentation experience; Leadership experience; and
    • Experience in community-oriented policing.Hiring Process:

Subway Assistant Manager

Academic Support Counselor

The Ferrum College Academic Resources Center seeks to enrich their team with an energetic, creative and flexible person who enjoys working with college students.  This position will work with students who may be identified as academically at-risk students.   This position will communicate with students on academic probation, warning, and suspension to help them strengthen their academic success.  The applicant will serve as an instructor for the CSK Academic Success Course.  Applicants for this position must have a master’s degree.  Background/focus in the area of student learning theory preferred.  Skills necessary for the academic support counselor are ability to establish and maintain database, ability to communicate effectively with the students and faculty, and work with campus wide academic advising.  Qualified applicants should have a minimum of one-year experience in using intervention strategies with academically at-risk students.

Dining Services Cashier - Seasonal Position

Ferrum College has an opening for Dining Services Cashier.  Responsibilities include but not limited to processing employee and student ID cards for meals, cash deposits, debit and credit card entries, department charges, balancing the cash drawer at the end of the shift.  This person must comply with all health department, safety, and Ferrum College and Dining Services rules and policies.

The person filling this position will typically work 32 hours per week while classes are in session (29 weeks a year) and may require some scheduling flexibility. The position does not provide benefits.

Candidates must have very good customer service skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products, knowledge of a POS system, the ability to learn and use other college software, professional dress and attitude, and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.

Dining Services - Banquet Chef/Assistant Shift Leader

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Banquet Chef to prepare meals for college students and employees, and to assist with catered events.  Responsibilities include all phases of preparation and food service.   Must have excellent customer service skills.

Prior cooking experience required, buffet/banquet experience preferred.  Baking experience a plus.  Ability to review menus, test foods, plan cooking schedules, and read and follow recipes is essential job functions.  Must be familiar with sanitation requirements, safety and health regulations.  Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift/carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and 10-25 pounds frequently and be able to stoop, bend and squat.  The candidate must be able to assist in culinary training program for other production staff to ensure continuous development.

Housekeeper

Ferrum College has an immediate opening in our Housekeeping Department.  We are looking for a reliable, conscientious individual to perform general housekeeping duties in residential halls, office/classroom buildings, other buildings, and occasionally outside.  This involves cleaning using specialized chemicals and equipment, including buffers and carpet cleaning equipment occasionally.

Individual will work in a variety of environments, both inside and outside.   Must be able to occasionally lift & carry up to 75 pounds and be capable of a full range of body motions including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking.

Retail Food Operations Career Opportunities

On Call Driver

This position is considered to be an ongoing/recurring seasonal status.

Ferrum College is accepting applications for an On-call Driver to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College.  Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping.  This position requires some overnight travel.  A background check is required.
