Take Back the Night Event Re-scheduled at Ferrum College

10/29/2012

Ferrum, Va. (October 29, 2012) – The Ferrum College Social Work Human Behavior class is hosting a Take Back the Night event on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in Vaughn Chapel.

The annual event is designed to raise awareness of the threat of domestic violence and sexual assault.  The program originated in Philadelphia in 1975, and has since served as an outlet to prevent domestic abuse against both men and women.

Ferrum College student Andrea Lee, who is helping organize the annual event, said she expected about 100 people to attend.  “People need to be aware of what’s going on.  It’s a comfort to other people to know that others have been through this,” she said. “Talking about abuse is one of the best ways to combat the problem.  It needs to be out in the open.”

The program will feature a speaker who has suffered abuse and is willing to share her story. There will also be a performance by The Anointed and Unashamed Praise Mime Ministry.  This is the ninth year Ferrum has hosted the event.

The event is open to the campus and the community.
